Bio degradable?

Just doing some work on a cylinder head for a Triumph 2000 Roadster, 1948/49, like the car Bergerac drove.
The customer supplied some new exhaust valves, they came in a Tranco box and the valves were wrapped in a waxed paper, just reminded me of the little waxed bags of salt in crisps in the early 60s! The paper has started to break up, so we must have hit the bio degrade effect after about 60 years
