Duratec 2.3/2.5 250hp
Discussion
Hi everybody,
companies such as Burton Power, Omex, Raceline, Cosworth claim to be able to put together highly tuned version of the Ford Duratec 2.3 and 2.5 litres with power outputs from 260/280/300hp.
These are expensive engines (>12k£) with highly modified internals.
There seems to be little history and comments about that top-spec range of products and I would like to get some information regarding their expected reliability.
Given that I have the impression that most of those product are only on the catalogue but almost never built I'm wondering if the can be reliable or prone to explode at a certain mileage.
What I do know that the Duratec 2.0 263hp that Caterham put into their R500 suffers from reliability issues: a friend of mine visited a Caterham workshop with several engine-out R500s waiting for their sub 20k miles engine to be rebuilt.
That's scary...
