Alternative to a paper gasket.

Morning,

I am fixing a burnt out stator on my fireblade and can get a new stator today but not a gasket. I commute on the bike so if I can get it all working tonight it would be a boon.

The generator cover has a green paper gasket which has torn when I took it off. The gasket needs to be oil tight as the generator runs in oil. Is there an alternative that will be as good and last as long as a paper gasket or should I just wait?

Wait, dont take chances with bike engines, yes someone will probably suggest using a tube of silicone gasket,but if the tolerances are very tight(and usually are in that area)you could have contact between the rotor and the windings assy with obvious consequences,that gasket may add neccesary clearance to that cover.

I did make a gasket last night. I used two sheets of that thick green paper that filing cabinet hanging envelope things are made from as they're nice and dense. I didin't quite get the whole thing put back together last night and must admit that the clearance thing is praying on my mind a bit. The thickness of the two sheets of card is slightly less thick than the old gasket. I guess I'll just have to try it.
