Noisy clutch/gearbox

Originally posted this in the Tuscan section but then thought its more of an engine/gearbox question.
My tuscan has developed a noise that comes from the transmission tunnel, the noise happens when the car is out of gear and my foot is not on the clutch pedal. I sounds like a scraping sound, however as soon as I put pressure on the pedel the noise stops but it gets worse if I hold the pedel just off the floor (around its biting point.
Could this be release bearing related or is it something more serious?
