Hello all, I planned on blogging a pic today on how good the ro is on water logged (as a start to try to add a little to the forum this yr)

Trouble is I needed to get something from the shops on the way home......the thing is I left my bumper at the shops when I left! Not being in this situation before (as it parked up fine), it must have settled just over the curb enough to catch and peel it off. Its popped out of the fog light lenses and snapped one side connection to the wing as well as distorted it. I need to get it off tomorrow to see if I can cobble something up as its currently my only car on the road. That or hope it stays warm to allow me to use the motorbike.

Some pics.

Then as I thought that I could limp home, the inner liner was rubbing......it needed to be unscrewed so called the dad "RAC,"... to bring some gaffa tape and screw drivers to bodge it up (as he was only a mile away).

(the bonnet is popped to get the tape off as I don't want it wrecking the paint.

Gutted but at least it a minor issue i.e. no ones hurt and is mendable etc, trouble is with christmas and recent kitchen we don't have a pot to p1ss in at present so it might have to be reattached and gaffered up for now. I have asked Brett and Gary for quotes for VXR bumpers......maybe a std ro one would be cheaper to source just to get me up and running again.

Any thoughts/help would be greatly received. Roger / Andy any breakers at yours?

Cheers all. It looks to be twisted. I may be able to fix it, but I need to go back to the car park as I seem to have lost a corner (which will need reattaching with glue/fiberglass). I will dig out a bumper removal thread and then decide.

I removed the bumper today, thanks to someones notes on here. I went back to the car park and found these shocking plastic clips. Also the curb stone wasn't square so contacted the supermarket.....worth a try.

They look cheap and nasty but obviously work, by letting go and not ripping the bumper. I need to work out how to refit or replace these.

The ro looks poorly without this on

The bumper looks fairly straight

The trouble is this corner

I'm thinking countersunk rivet a stainless steel plate to give the strength of the hole.....then try to filler or fiberlass to finish the corner shape.....might be entertaining.

Thanks to all for words of encouragement and others for help namely:

Gary for trying to get me a number.....I guess its going to be eye watering, that said a spare might be good anyway, lets see on price.

Phil, for the kind offer of a loan VT bumper until I sort it (might take you up on that)

Brett, for honesty of email sent. That said, do you have a ropey bumper with the corner I need that you can cut off and post? I might be able to graft it on some how? It might mean that you can sell something from a knackered front end as well.....let me know please.

I am a reader of this forum and must put something back, I will try to join in more in 2014.

Thanks, I spotted this last night and its on my watched. Mind you the latest idea is to buy the near side corner off a damaged bumper to graft on (depending on cost) to fix mine. Brett and Gary are looking into it.

I have been thinking, has anyone got any cv8 bumpers knocking about (for sale). Broken/battered is fine, I could lop of the end that needs sorting? It might be a much cheaper option.

I have a plan.....i think it involves finally putting a mk2 cav on the road then transporting this to my dads to rebuild the corner.

So this resto has been accelerated:

Currently failed its first MOT in 12yrs on Friday on a few minor things. It should be sorted early next week.

I have had to drive the ro round the estate to clear the rust on the discs, washed it and wrapped it up for the foreseeable.

The caddy is my dads, great little run around. The bumper is at his and we are thinking about how to fix it......should be doable. Rubbing down the bumper with all the nooks and and crannies will be interesting

Well I have been really busy and the old cavalier has done ok, just a heater fan failure, a brake light bulb and the need to top up the oil occasionally so I have been helping my dad to other things on his projects. That said he has fiber glassed the broken corner

He has done a great job, mind you we need to rout out the middle bit to get it fitting ok.....still, saves the crazy money for a new one.

We routed it out on Saturday

The nut dad put in there was protruding too far so we got it out and then put a little more fiber glass in there. A little more tidying and the plan is to finish it Saturday and put it on the ro. I'll paint it once I sort out some more of my Cavaliers. I'll try to get the wheels done at the same time then and get it looking a bit better.

So a couple of weekends ago I got the car in my car into my dads garage

Roger told me my power steering cooler was corroded but its pretty bad.....

So took the worst of the corrosion off, treated it, then hammerite to get it to last until I go for a service

The following bracket seems to have a spinning nut on the back, do I have to drill this out? I didn't have time to investigate by taking the covers off....

We made up some stainless replacements

Its not perfect and its started to crack already so far from ideal but I am back on the roads for now. Just need to put the fog light back in after glueing the lense back on.....might have to get another one.

I will need to graft on a corner from a broken bumper and use a supporting plate behind (rivet and bonded to do it properly). I have emailed Brett.....I should speak to Gary as well I guess.

No one knows about the nut then......I'll ask MF.

It seems that my power steering cooler may have failed. It looks like its gone where it is held below the rad (or are they connector pipes). See below. What are the options please? It looks like a rubbish unit, is it fixable on the drive? I am good at getting the bumper off now ;¬) I don't know if its creamed the power steering pump or rack, as it started to whine a little closer to home. I tried to avoid any severe corner.....I guess its fix the leak and fill it up and see.

Not so obvious from above

Balls.

I have also had safe mode activate on both my last 2 return trips from work (only using it once a week for the 80 miler.....I fear its the throttle body sensor(s) again. Is there anyway of sorting this by cleaning it, or do they just have a set period of life? Are the new ones any better? I will monitor it. No fault codes on the OBII port.

Cheers all.

P.S. EmmaJ my father-in-law spotted you heading between Henley to reading (the nice twisty road) a while back, he knows as he saw your car on my annual trip to MF last summer.....going at a far rate apparently.

Good luck with the bumper btw smile
Ta. I think I will wait for a refurbed one and respray it and use the current one as a spare. Or I might get just the corner off a smashed one, and sort it when the car is laid up in the winter.

Cheers VXRocky, I spoke to Andy at MF and it will be on order once its restocked. As for messy, I'm not sure that there is much steering fluid left as its been dripping on the drive eek The cardboard has soaked up some of it at least.

Its just another part failure, lets not kid ourselves these cars were cheap for a reason. If I keep replacing the rubbish bits it will come good.

MF have packaged up a universal cooler they use and its en route (arriving monday).

Any recommendations on which fluid to use please?

I need to get this sorted within the next week as the discs are looking very average and I could well do without a large bill for replacing them again (warped syndrome).

OK thanks, I went for some redline atf. We'll see how that goes, the power steering cooler has turned up (thanks MF) so need to find some time to fit it.

I am guessing that 2013 is not my year wrt the ro, the cat had snuck in as I was putting the cover on it (i didn't notice) and she was in there for 2 days. luckily for her we found her just a bit skinny but cat pee and turds in the footwells and claw marks on the passenger seat......not impressed censored

Still, been scrubbing the mats to clear the stink so they are coming up nice biggrin

So progress is at my awesome speed (mk2 cav in yr 7 of rebuild)

The new steering oil cooler failed from MF a few weeks ago, so we took the bumper off and I got covered when taking the old unit out. Since we decided to put some new brackets in to make it a proper job, my dad has made these

Currently zinc coated, just need to paint them black and mount it all. Should last longer than the std offerings.

Hello all, so finally got my finger out. Painted the new brackets.

I couldn't get to one of the jubilee clips for love nor money as i didn't jack it up......after plenty of mild swear words, I got a hacksaw blade and gentle cut it off. No cuts into the pipe so it worked. Then ran the new pipe and bolted up the new cooler.

My OCD wanted black clips but none to hand. I filled it up, no obvious leaks then topped it again after turning it over. There was a bit of a whine on lock, but after refitting the bumper and then took it up the road it disappeared (I think, the pipes were singing). Hopefully it was just the rack refilling. God I miss that car.

Went to billing over the weekend and saw a few VXR8s with the odd Ro. Pauls was there and so was a yellow CV8 mit spoiler. The mk2 cav was great.

Nice looking job.smile
Thanks.

Took it out last week and the "safety mode," kicked in. Ordered a TB from MF (thanks again Andy) and fitted it over the weekend. Back up and running and sounds better than ever. Took it for a drive yesterday and some moron pulled out on me on a dual carriage way.....then didn't speed up too quickly then didn't pull in too quickly either. Once I go past I indicated with a wave gesture on his driving ability. The traffic built up and then they were behind me taking pictures, as I pulled off the dual carriage way, more pics alongside. Either I am being facebooked, or they think I drove badly and the police will get the images......maybe they are like me and wanted to get some shots of the car in full flow. If anyone see them, please send me a link. It was near the bagshot M3 junction.
