Hi guys (and girls),

I just thought i'd poke my head in and say 'Hi' since I've only recently joined the forum and, more importantly, am due to pick up my new purchase tomorrow! (an '04 CV8 in Impulse Blue) I am...very excited... to say the least!

The car is stock at the mo, and when i went for a test drive, I was quite surprised at how tame it sounds in general. Does anyone else share this thought? (Initially, this will no doubt prove to be a good thing as the missus has no idea it's a great big V8!!)

However, I feel sure that before long, i will be looking to give it a bit more of a burbly rumble (a little more 'presense' if you like).

Do you guys have any good recommendations as to the best way to rectify this within a sensible budget for the time being? (bearing in mind that this months wages will go into the fuel tank!

Cheers,

Thanks Sturdy,

I'm based up in good ol' Yorkshire, so probably a fair trek to any of the above! (any excuse to take it out won't be overlooked though!) biggrin

I've heard of a 'Two hole mod' for the air box and chucking a new panel filter in... any thoughts on that? (has anyone done it on a CV8 and had nice results? (it's just a bit more of an induction-ey sound i think i'm after initially....at least while I save up some more cash for a proper exhaust upgrade).

There is a place nearby that do quite a bit of work on big V8s who seem to know their stuff, maybe I'll swing by there in a few weeks and have a chat with them (after the initial grin wears off!).

I'll get a nice pic uploaded asap anyway, once i get my hands on it biggrin

Hi Codswallop (like it),

The cruising aspect is definitely one to bear in mind as I will be doing a fair bit of it (plus, as mentioned before, I'll still be able to convince the girlfriend that I've bought something sensible!!).

I'm probably getting slightly ahead of myself though.... I haven't even picked it up yet!

congrats on the manifolds/exhaust though, let me know how that goes!

hehe, thanks mate, yeah I looked at other colours but they did look slow wink

It's from a place in Duffield near Nottingham...I saw it on Autotrader originally... might still be on there.

I'm intrigued about the ripshifter though, how are you getting on with that? One thing I did notice about the Monaro is the sloppy gearbox... I'm swapping my Mazda3 sport for it tomorrow which does have a much nicer/Sharper feel to the gear change (although nowhere near as many cool points or horses!)

Hahaha! my wallet is dooooomed!

Thanks for all the input so far guys, I feel so welcomed! smile

Looks like I'll be heading to the next meet if I can free it up then!

K&N filter just might keep me (and my wallet!) going for now...

This time tomorrow I'll be behind that beautiful wheel biggrin

Mmmmm... I found myself wandering around the internet yesterday (more specifically; Youtube) to see if I could sample a couple of examples of the Wortec sound... if the real thing sounds anything close to the audio in those clips... let's just say my wallet is in for a long hard struggle over the next few months!

On a more pressing matter...I have just heard from the dealer that I'll have to postpone collection 'til tomorrow now due to a problem with the fuel level sensor. On one hand, it's reassuring that they're sorting it out, but on the other.... I have to wait a whole extra day now!!??! cry

Hopefully, she'll still be ready for the weekend spin

I don't suppose this is a common thing by any chance? confused

Yeah, Benz Bavaria indeed it was. What a place! I've never been surrounded by so many exotic cars and ignored them all! (Spent the whole time staring into that impulse blue) smile

I think there was one in Keighly near Bradford, but I don't know if it's still there?

Best of luck with the search for one though mate driving

Haha... fair shout.

I've just found out that the dealer has given up on the fuel sensor! Claiming that it's a common issue and they can't find a fix?? Has anyone at all had this issue? :/ maybe it's because they keep taking people out on test drives with next to no fuel in it then sit it on a forecourt and let the float stick to the tank or something?

Any suggestions welcome!

Well, I finally have it! biggrin It's now on my drive looking beautiful of course! The drive home was awesome (except for the fact that most of it was on the M1 50mph bore-fest...i got to test out the cruise control at least :P)

I filled it up and set off....the fuel gauge remained on empty for the duration... but it has been sat on that forecourt for approx 3 weeks on an empty tank so maybe it just needs a bit of a jolt to free it up... (it wouldn't be unheard of) I have a 1 month warranty with the dealer so the plan is to see if by refilling a couple of times it sorts itself out... in the meantime i'll try Monkfish and worst case; invoice the dealer for the cost since it's under warranty. smile

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, much appreciated. I'm just ecstatic to have it on my drive now! biggrin

Also, looking forward to attending my first meet/show woohoo

Hey all,

Thought I'd post a brief update smile

My fuel gauge has worked briefly on a couple of occasions since I've had it... and then failed again... dodgy connection somewhere i reckon...haven't had chance to call Monkfish yet... too busy enjoying myself! That fuel gauge is gonna constantly be on empty anyway, why fix it?! laugh

Anyway, since I promised some pics, and haven't got round to it yet... I did take one for the time being so you guys at least have something to work with biggrin

(my pooch is in the background wondering what I'm doing...)

Welcome Stu smile

I've only ever seen about 2 cars with a stock exhaust, so you're not alone on that thumbup

Depending on where you're based, standard options for exhaust are AAS in Newcastle, Monkfish near MK, or Walkinshaw towards Oxford.

You can also have the centre silencers removed by any old exhaust place and that'll give you some more volume I believe.
Sturdy,

Sorry to drag this back up... but have you tried removing the centers on an 04 CV8? I'm thinking of trying it this weekend... is it liable to drone?

As for that slippery slope... I have a big financial barrier propping me up right now... which is both good and bad i suppose biggrin

Glad you've settled in though bud.

I have centre boxes removed and do get a bit of drone but a louder exhaust note.
Is this you in the black CV8 in this clip then James? I imagine you've had other stuff done too to arrive at that sound?!

Only a couple of bits.laugh
Haha! you slipped almost all the way down that slope then!

So... going back a bit....when you say middle boxes removed..... you don't mean from the stock system? Or if you did, do you have any clips from when you did it? The exhaust place near me has quoted 120 bin lids to do it... seems a lot to me, but then they would have to remove the current cat-back and then replace the stock one but still....how hard is that??? :/

Hey guys,

Big thanks for the responses. Looks like I just need to decide whether £120 is worth it for now... Provided I keep the car long enough, I'd love to get the Wortec one day, but i need something to 'put me on' for the time being so maybe the centre box delete is the way to go as a happy medium.

Don't suppose anyone has any little clips that might tip the balance for me? tongue out

I'll get you a pint if I ever actually get to a meet! biggrin
