Hi all
Got a few issues with the car, it's an 6.0 VXR
Very recently had a new water pump and steering rack
The car still smells hot, even only after a short run to the shops, I realise I had water/antifreeze all over the engine bay when the water pump went but I would have thought that smell would have gone away by now?
Also the miles left to go indicator has now decided to go down in blocks of ten and everytime I start up it says "service engine oil" when it is full up with oil, could these be caused by some sort of sensor under the bonnet malfunctioning by being affected by water ingress?
Also have a tweeting sound coming from the engine bay, affected by revs, possibly a belt?
I also still have the check engine come up all the time, which monkfish said was something to do with a clutch switch and a diff clonk on pulling away intermittently frown
All of this is seriously turning me off the car which is a shame
I would take the car up to monkfish but with such imperceptible and intermittent problems it's hard to explain them
As I am not very mechanically minded any advice would be greatly appreciated
Just want to get the car sorted so I can start to enjoy it again frown

the clue with the service engine oil warning is in the wording. It doesn't say top up engine oil, it means service the car/change the oil.
Only had a service 4000 miles ago

This can be re-set. Not sure if you have any fault codes stored, but I can pop over with a fault reader if you like?
That would be great, when could you come over?

Did whoever serviced it reset the service indicator?

The check engine light message comes up on mine intermittently, usually does it immediately after start up, it's been doing it for the last 2 years. Could any body who has a code reader, and is going to the Sunday Service tomorrow, plug it into my car to see what the error code is?.

Yes it was reset, monkfish did the service

Got dinner at about 6, so see you afterwards if you're free tonight. If not give me a time for tomorrow.
I'm waiting for daughters to turn up then got to go shopping so probably won't be available till 7:30 tonight
Or tomorrow available all day

If it stays light, I'll leave here at 7pm, and if you're late back, I'll wait. If it comes over dark like last night, I'll leave it until tomorrow. smile
Ok cool, cheers mate

Scott

if the car was serviced earlier than was due then the service warning reset may have not been reset. Its a simple procedure but you cannot always do it too think. think Its in the FAQs or I can talk you through doing it over the phone.

James
Sorry for the late replies, been away from my phone
Thanks for the offer James but think it's sorted now smile

I hate to say it but you may have a head gasket problem, may be worth getting a comp test done.
When you take the oil filler cap off is there a lot of sludge on it?
No don't think so, I'll have a look in the morning

I've just been over there. There's no fault codes in the memory.

The car smells hot, as you can smell antifreeze, and you associate that with an overheated engine. Engine water temp was just under 100 while I was there. The water pump was leaking (recently replaced) and I think Rammon is just suffering the after effects of ethylene glycol on the engine.

The squeak didn't happen while I was there, but I suspect one of the pulley wheels, so suggested he speaks with Snowwolf, who forever seems to be changing and rebuilding the bearings in them.

Finally, the service reminder. Lo and behold, it's asking for a 65000 'mile' service, yet 65000km equates to his current mileage. We have reset it, using the excellent instructions in the FAQ. cool

Four mini-meets for me today in total. hehe
So do you think it could possibly be head gasket Ian or did the water temp suggest otherwise?
As always Ian, thanks for coming over, you sir are a gentleman and a scholar
I was having a day of being really peed off with the car

I guess I'll have to put up with the smell then, I haven't done anything like that amount of miles

Glad its nothing serious, didn't realise the extent of the leak or that the car was in good hands (Neil).
And no sludge whatsoever smile
