fans - cutting in, or not,

Hello -

well, my GTS-R overheated today; temp gauge went right to the top, with red light & chimes going as well!

Was queueing in a multi-storey in Brighton - had nowhere to go, but pulled over and switched off soon as I could. Heater on max helped a bit...

Water level ok, so hopefully no damage done...

Most likely cause fans not cutting in, for some reason. Checking them now, back home, when temp reaches a point, only ONE fan kicks in.
Same with AC - getting only one fan.

Is this normal (same for Monaro?) - do you only get one fan, with the second coming on later if needed, or should I be getting both together at all times?

ok thanks - so that makes mine seem right then...

maybe the first just didn't come in at that time for some reason...

ok, thanks for the replies..

think I know what may have happened: discovered a small split in radiator end tank, driver's side.

fair to assume water loss but not immediate replacement from expansion tank, hence high temps?

hopefully no damage done...
