Diff (not) off
Discussion
I'm currently getting my arse kicked by the bolts which hold the diff to the subframe, to the extent I'm afraid I'll round them off. How much of an arse is it to drop the whole rear subframe?
The slight swan neck on my spanners isn't doing me any favours with the access, I may run out to buy some flat ones...

You should be able to get in there OK, but you have to drop the diff down off its bush and lower it to get at the upper four bolts but they can be tight though. You don't want to drop the whole rear end off really, just lower it.
Best done on a lift.
Ah, I've not dropped the subframe at all...might be where I'm going wrong. I don't understand 'drop the diff down off its bush', but it might make sense when I next get a chance to get under the car. I think I know the bush you mean (mental picture, in isolation), haven't spotted it yet though.Best done on a lift.
A lift would be preferable, but I'm doing it with the rear on ramps, lying on an ant-hill
