I have come to the conclusion I need to sell my Monaro. I have adored it over the last 7 years of ownership and it has wanted for nothing. But I can no longer justify holding on to it when it gets so little use and I know from recent experience that cars need to be used and not sat in the garage for extended periods.

Would I be better to wait until the spring to get a better price or sell it now?

I have been at this point with the Monaro before. I then take it out for a drive and it gets under my skin again!

It is quite ridiculous but I do actually worry about what will happen to it if I do sell.

Incidentally what is the best email address to contact efilive?

I have ordered a new Audi S3 as a daily to replace my Jeep. The Ferrari and Monaro are weekend toys. To be honest I dislike saying that as it sounds so crass but it is the way it is for me.

To finance the remainder of the Audi after part exchanging the Jeep, I either sell some share holdings or the Monaro. Basically if I hold on to the Monaro, from a pure financial point of view I am saying the money is ‘safer’ in the Monaro than a company in the FTSE-100.

My Ferrari has out performed all my share holdings by miles. If the Monaro could be equated to a ‘hold’ or a ‘buy’ maybe I should hang on to it?

Realistically are these cars likely to become collectable or atleast hold their money?

Formerly known as Nosubstitute on here biggrin ? Would be an amazing coincidence if two cv8 owners had a Testarossa.

That's a nice car - if it's the one I believe it is.
Yeah, nosubstitute has morphed into MrPaulo!

I am still very unsure about what to do with the car.

For me it’s going to boil down to whether I can get enough for it to make it worthwhile moving on. I’d rather it sit in the garage than just give it away. Especially since I have lavished so much on it over the years.

I don’t intend to sell privately. I don’t want the hassle. I wonder what I might get p/x? £10,000 or is that a bit rich?

The car is an ’05 CV8 Quicksilver N/A with basically every mod possible from the Monkfish catalogue with 38,000 on the clock.

I only changed the forum name as I forgot my login and password for the email address associated with the account.

The Monaro is a wonderful car in so many ways as you all know. I have taken such good care of the car, only having it serviced and worked on by Monkfish in the main, as I thought it would be a keeper and the thought of selling it just give me a dreadful feeling in my stomach. But is has only been driven to ‘maintain it’ over the last year or so and it seems a shame to hide it away in a garage thinking of it is as investment. The damn thing seems to have a personality and it deserves more.

The fact is that my Ferrari is getting older and as it does so it is getting increasingly more ‘high maintenance’. Old 12 cylinder Ferraris are just a whole different world of financial pain.

Something needs to give.

James @ Elite, I’ll give you a call next week.

I have been very disheartened with how little my CV8 seems to be worth. Thank to James at Elite by the way. It was great to meet you and I appreciate the time you spent with me.

It seems people will pay a premium for a VXR badge, which has nothing to do with Holden in anyway, and a body kit, which to my mind actually detracts from the original design.

I took the Monaro to work today and it was fantastic. Very close to the sense of occasion I get when driving my Ferrari to be honest so I have decided to hang on to the car indefinitely.

I pulled out of BP earlier having given it a drink of the finest fuel and it gave me a little pop and a bang. This car is a keeper and it seems to know it. I love this car!!

The car got loads of attention under the lights at the BP station. I looked back at the car while waiting to pay and I thought ‘God that car looks good!’

I have not driven the Monaro for some time and I had forgotten how much attention it gets.

Not from office drones in their Audis and BMWs who mostly wouldn’t know a Holden from a Hoover, (yes I am waiting on delivery of my S3 but I am different!) but from petrol heads in commercial vehicles who always know their cars being on the road professionally.

Loads of windows down and it would be rude not to let the V8 breathe in an appropriate manner!

It had been so long since I had driven the Monaro it had become a figure on a balance sheet and I’d forgotten about the emotion of the car. Driving it again reignited my love for the car.

It also compliments the Ferrari so well as it is so much more usable on a day-to-day basis while giving similar and if I am totally honest superior performance, so when the weather is bad or I need to be ‘less flash’ the Monaro is perfect.

The Ferrari is great but attracts sooo much attention and this is not always wanted. The Monaro strikes an optimum balance.
