I'm reaching a point now where I can't take the thing out for a drive in town without being followed or pulled over by the plod (It's happened a few times now). My experience last week really took the biscuit though, they truly excelled themselves, picture the scene:

I left work to drive home, on my way I passed a police car parked at the side of the road facing the other way. I never really paid it much attention and drove slowly amidst the rush hour traffic. I got to a set of lights and noticed in my rear view mirror blues flashing and coming up behind everyone really fast, assuming there was an accident we all mounted the pavement to let him past and pass he did and he disappeared taking a left at the traffic lights.

My route home means I take a right and I did only to see the same lights come flying up being everyone again as we all sat on a bridge, we tried to let him past but he stopped and pulled in behind me holding the entire bridge up he told me to stop. Now we have rush hour traffic on a bridge bottle necked and at a standstill so this guy can pull me over, he then says "Please pull in over there sir to the left as I don't want to hold up traffic here" (there is a small road just off the bridge).

So I'm now stopped and he is sat behind me, lights still flashing away and runs over:

Police "Your MOT is 2 and half years out of date?"
Me *Long Pause*
Me "I'm sorry what?"
Police "My computer is telling me your MOT is out of date by two and a half years"
Me "Well it's not so your computer is wrong"
Police "Well it is telling me it is sir and when I followed you I thought you had gone left and I couldn't find you so thought you were trying to make a get away and I knew for sure it was out of date at that point"
Me: *Even longer pause now in disbelief (sitting in work clothes with my company tag around my neck driving a Monaro with a private reg....what sort of getaway was I going to make exactly?)*
Police "Do you have your MOT on you?"
Me: "No I have my tax disc though and that's been stamp...."
Police "Doesn't matter that could have come from anywhere"
Me "yes but it's been stamped by the post office who couldn't have issued it without seeing my MOT"
Police "I'm sorry that's no use, stay where you are, turn the car off and I'm going to do some checks"
Me *Waited for 15 minutes*
Police *Returns to my window* "Right I'm done, I'm giving you a ticket to produce your valid MOT at the station in the next 7 days or you'll be arrested"#
Me "This car was bought in Northern Ireland and it has an Irish issued MOT valid until May next year"
Police "Their systems don't talk to hours very much so we can't see that"
Me "FINE I assume after I show you this I won't be bothered again?"
Police "No you can and probably still will be stopped"
Me *Long pause and drawn out sigh*

In essence he is correct and it's not a fault of the officer that the system isn't up to date my biggest issue is the fact I showed him the tax disc with a stamp which I thought would have been enough and the theatrics in stopping me in the way he did, I honestly thought there had been a fatal crash given the speed and drama he displayed. I've had the car since July and I've never been stopped for an MOT before....unreal.

I don't mean to sound unfriendly, but that's not because it's a Monaro, it's because it was Irish?

For what it's worth, in 30,000 miles I've never even been followed in it, and I'm a fairly young looking chap hehe
The car isn't Irish so to speak it's originally from England but has spent the last year in Ireland, one of the chaps on here used to own it in fact and has commented recently.

It's sad to say but it IS because it's a Monaro if you live in Aberdeen that will make sense to you as anyone who owns a car that's different tends to get pulled over but I've never seen drama quite like this.

I really don't understand this?

It was an Irish car but now in the UK !

BIB saying the MOT is 2.5 years out of date?

The usual for BIB is no MOT = No Insurance = They impound the car.

How did it get a UK number plate?

How was this issued without some sort of valid MOT?

Why has your current UK reg not been registered in the last year even as having a valid UK MOT Cert?

Confused.Com
You're confused because you've not read this properly lol
It was never an Irish car it was just sold to a guy in Ireland by one of the owners and spent a couple of years there, it's British as I've said.
The car's V5 IS up to date as is the rest of my paperwork it's one of the first things I did when I bought it.
Hope that clears it up for you smile

The UK vosa MOT online computer does not keep records of N.I. MOTs so your car would appear to have no MOT if they check but the MOT test I recognised here

you are less likely to pulled in a monaro than most other performance cars so must be you or the area you are in if you keep being followed

BTW - You aren't related to S60HSV are you smile
No I'm not I think that may be the previous owner mate smile

I read your first post fine, your later one explaining it was a UK car before it went to Ireland was sent whilst I was typing my reply smile

When did you put your private plate on it?
The original owner bought the plate with the car chap and it's been on there ever since smile suits her down to the ground smile
No worries just a thread timing cross over smile

Northern Ireland is part of the UK so the car has a valid MOT.

Just keep the certificate in the car from now on until you need to renew it. I wouldn't spend more money getting a new MOT just because the government can't be bothered to keep their systems up to date.
That's exactly what I've done, I keep the certificate on me. The guy did say that their systems do talk, just not very often.

I had the same problem on a Harley I brought from Ireland, the MOT was done in Northern Ireland so not checkable on the DVLA database (well some of them anyway) as it was ok for Tax and had a UK V5, plates etc. To avoid any possible chats with PC Plod and lets start looking at it closely then ( because computer says no!) I just got a UK MOT.
When he kept saying his computer said I had no MOT all I could picture was

+1 as even if you have NI MOT in car you will still get pulled and have to explain.
Totally and to be honest I don't blame the Police like I said it wasn't the officers fault the system was out of date, the only situation he should be ashamed of was the dramatic traffic antics (which annoyed me more than the MOT issues). I just keep the cert in the car, makes things easier and I get the extra joy of feeling special when the police want to talk to me. To be honest they will start to know the car and not bother after a while.
