Well this happened this afternoon but didn't want to ask just yet as wanted to investigate and not seem a numpty.

Traveling to my local town, not towing it at all, but a steady 70 on the dual carriageway. Journey went okay but within half a mile of arriving home almighty plume of steam came from engine, and I mean a PLUME. Managed to pull over saw water dripping from N/S bay of engine. Always carry water with me and topped it up and limped home, nearly there and temp gauge through the roof.

Now safe and sound at home. Had a look and can see no major rad problems, but where the level check (yellow) is situated as soon as I put water in it really does flood out again. Out came the jack and up she went. Took the nessaccary covers off but can't see below the bodywork.

All I can say is that the water is coming out as soon as I fill her up. Underneath it 'seems' fairly easy to take the cover off and have a look. But in the dark a bugger to get to.

But, any advice as to what it may be, I'm guessing pipe burst, expansion tank cracked but would really appreciate any advice if at all possible.

I've included a pic of a Monaro engine and the leak is coming directly from N/S under yellow level marker.

Many many thanks puffin. I'be checked all else including rad and as clean as a whistle so after your advice mate it does indeed sound like a split pipe. Hopefully it is as a lot less hassle and expense.

Thanks once again for your advice matey, appreciated.

Hi mate.

Many thanks.
Funnily enough I've already been on fish website and checked out parts etc. I'll know a lot more tomorrow once I've had a proper look and then all guns blazing, missing that ROAR already. smile

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you folks after all your excellent advice, had a bit on is all.

Before I say anymore, forgot what I said in above post, just shows how wrong you can be. frown

Well, bugger, it's the blooming rad, on the ramps checked every pipe/hose going and then ran her up to temp and there she was, a pinhole in seal on right of rad. It's definitely coming from the core of the rad, unfixable I THINK. So a swift phone call to the fish tomorrow to try and source and sort.

Thanks so much for all the replies folks, I may not be back on the road for several weeks as budget a bit tight with a few other things gone belly up but be there soon enough.

Hi Mate.

It is coming directly from the side, now IF this is the plastic end caps I've heard they are repairable. IF SO is it really worth it and will it hold.

Hi Mac. I've heard you can recore them but I'm hoping against hope I don't need to go that far, well at least not at the present time as I have a daughter about to get married and a few other things going that will swallow up my 'MONARO FUND'. smile

Hi Swift.

I've seen these online, and I was looking for any reviews from Monaro owners, worth a look I reckon. Thanks for replying mate.

Yeah, I like the idea of these all ally rads - setting aside any claimed performance improvements, which would be a bonus if true - I like the idea of a one piece rad with no plastic ends to eventually fail again....and for good measure they cost no more than a standard rad.

Is it all just too good to be true though... scratchchin
Yep Swift, that last sentence is the main worry.

Hi Sturdy.

Good to know they are used on the US, but like you say maybe things are a bit 'different' over there.

Fitment looks okay judging by a few clips. I'll let you know which one I go for, at the moment erring toward the fish though.

It's been a while folks but the beast is up and running agin after new rad. Sounds louder than before, imagination I know, but by god does it feel good to get her back up and running. Thanks all for the generous advice, support and posts while I was trying to sort it out. smile
