Hi all,
Pulled over today by the police on the motorway. Sitting and waiting smugly knowing Ive done nothing wrong and I spotted him following me a mile or so back.

Wanted me to go to the station, rev my R8 and hold it at 4k so he could put a decibel tester on it! If too loud then he would instruct me to put standard pipes back on!

I explained I was busy and on my way somewhere, and that I had owned the car for just over 4 years from when I purchased it, with the current set up from a main dealership, and I hadn't changed anything.

Im running it with headers and Wortec set up.

Anyone else had this issue recently, and what have you done about it?

Is installing electronic switchable set up an option?

Thanks

Quite!! The opposite of a Tesler!!!

It is a bit of a worry though as most of us are running Wortec / Walkinshaw or similar! I would guess 80-90% of us are not on standard pipes?

Interesting article Stevie - still seems to leave it all open ended though and at the discretion of the officer in question!

If he called round my house and asked me to hold it at 4k from cold Id tell him to take a hike and I then ask for his details and registered office so I could complain about his poor attitude and that I felt threatened, also mentioning that I would seek legal advce about feeling victimised and intimidated at my own home.

If your doing burn outs in public and 6k revs through town then fair enough, cruising on the motorway... Get a life officer!
Quite!!! This island is becoming something of a nanny state isn't it!! Whats the point of having a V8 if you cant hear it?

Like I said, the country is on a high security alert, we have the threat of being killed or maimed by radical idiot terrorists, the police are complaining about cuts and lack of resources, but this officer has time to waste on an exhaust?

Message to said officer. With the supposed meagre resources available to you, I suggest you don't waste money buying dB meters, and prioritise your time on what most people are concerned about in the real world.

A guy driving down a (noisy) motorway should be way down your list, and you need to keep us all on side for when the going gets really tough, which it inevitably will.

This is a real shame for me, having sung the praises of the British bobby to my antipodean mates, against what they have to put up with down there. Just my 2p.
If stations have been issued with db meters then there will inevitably be some who feel the desperate need to use them on the general public, and we who run Wortecs or other decent pipes (most of us probably) will be the fodder as an easy target!!

The rules are vague, and basically come down to the policeman's opinion.
Thanks Bibbs - interesting reading.

And to my way of thinking they should be looking to mop up dangerous aspects of motoring first, for example - HEADLIGHTS, TAILIGHTS AND BRAKELIGHTS!!!!! a broken headlamp bulb, no taillights or non-working brake lights are clearly dangerous to other road users!!!! A burble in your pipe is not!!!!
