Monaro Door Handle

Has anyone ever stripped a Monaro door handle down? I bought a couple from an Omega B to replace the plastic ones that the paint has chipped away from, I'd like to give evyerthing a really good clean up but in order to do that I want to fully dismantle the door handle. They are not complicated but before I go at it with tools and eventually break it, has anyone done it before?

My main concern is the metal bar that runs the length of the handle...how do you get it out?

I was under the impression this was a common upgrade?
I'm sure it was suggested to me on here in the past. That's a shame

Looks like it comes down to rods. The search now begins to find a pair of them
