Well yesterday car went for it mot and passed yeah but recommended a set of rear pads so I went and ordered a set throw work and sent them on and had them fitted. Then the phone call.

I was told by the garage your car has a misfire will check it out later for you then the phone goes again and it's a broken valve spring but valve seems to be OK. So new valves springs on there way.

My question is does anyone know where I can get the tool to do the springs in place?

The car is not standard and the mot garage place I use I trust with my car the 2 guys that work there are very respectful of my car. The misfire started when the car was in idle. The valve seems to sit back into place and line up with the others.

Wow.....there is no underestimating you dodged a major bullet there !!!
I guess that sums it up. hehe

Good luck with the repairs Si. Lucky you had a mechanic or two that were experienced enough to spot a problem quickly. cool
Guess we will find out once springs changed and compression test is done.

As mentioned on FB....I would be changing all springs after seeing that. That is not something that should ever happen, unless perhaps the cam is extreme for the springs, they have seen some severe usage, or there is an issue with the springs.
Either way...change them all !

Also, it would do no harm to get a borescope just to see if there is any visible evidence of the valve clipping the piston
These can be bought very cheap now off ebay etc if your mechanic doesnt have one.

Although if when closed all the valve stem heights are identical, then you could be fairly confident the valves are all good ( followed by compression or leakdown test after too )
That's the plan all valve springs are getting changed and the cam is not that extreme 223/231 comp cam and springs. I have also got sitting in waiting head gasket and valve so if need be I can just replace the valve if it has touched the piston.

Update.

We inspected the internal with a borescoope and found there has been no internal damage. There is no marks on the piston from this inspection. We are gonna go with changing the spring and do a compression test and if happy with the test we will change all the springs. And take it from there.
