Battery is fully charged. I get my three beeps and then a continuous drone and nothing from the starter at all. Totally dead. I have over the last 12 months been getting a sticking solenoid as well so that may have stopped working. Before I have to call a tow away job has anyone had similar and managed to get it going again.

Cheers,

Colin.

Tony - thanks. Previously some weeks ago I had tried quite a few turns to start it, which ended up with the alarm coming on for a few seconds. What do I do exactly to reset it? If it is that then I still think I've got problems anyway but I'll cross that bridge if I get to it.

On the subject of the starter motor relay, I've just been down to my local motor shop and got a 'sorry mate can't get that one, that's why it's yellow'. I guess it would make sense to test the relay but I don't know how to do that - can you do it with a battery charger and then test resistance or whatever ? It would be handy to have a spare anyway - can anyone recommend somewhere to purchase one from ?

Cheers,

Colin.

I have just ordered a starter relay from Racetech so see how that goes. I can test the fuel pump relay then as well. If that doesn't work,it'll have to be carted away.

Hi Tony,

Symptoms where different from the first time to the second time of trying to start it. Some weeks past between. First time after a few goes, it wouldn't fire up and after five or so attempts the alarm came on for some seconds. Second time, I get my three beeps, the droning noise comes on and stays on and with a full turn of the key there's nothing at all. Like you I'm not too knowledgable. I have reset the alarm\immobiliser as per instructions and got the relay on order, so really just eliminating things at the moment. I may as well try what I can before I have to incur towing costs :-(.

Colin.

Well I tested the battery and got a full 5 blocks of LED for fully charged.. So I'm assuming that's ok. Certainly voltage wise.

No not checked that one - but thanks for the info.. :-). I'll rule out the relays first and then have a look at that.

> do you hear the starter relay 43 clicking ?

Got to be honest but I can't remember :-(.

Thanks Finch.. Yes I've got an analogue multi-meter but not really sure what it's telling me on the ohms part of the display so I'll try and read up on it. The new relay came today to - so I have a spare to try test with as well.

> Hopefully it is just a faulty relay and only £30 odd quid to get you up and running again.

Yeah hope so :-). Getting a bit fed up with it sitting in the garage immobile.

Tony,

> What does the dash say about the battery? Should read about 12.4v without the engine running IIRC.

Not sure.. another thing to check tomorrow evening :-) Cheers.

No not really frown Turn the key and get a constant drone from what I think is the fuel pump. Turn it all the way and nothing except the alarm comes on. Although I've tested the battery and the test guage said it's fine it could still be that. Anyway - I just need it sorting and MOT'd so it's being towed away to my local TVR dealer. I will update the post with the findings in case it's useful to anyone else.

Yep I think that was the general opinion of my Tiv garage tech where it's going Shep. They offered to lend me some jump leads for the Anderson connector but to be honest it's just hassle with it being stuck in a small garage and I don't really have much time to do all this. I'd just like to get it towed, sorted, mot'd and drive it :-). I was thinking of asking them to strip out the Anderson connecter\leads as I doubt I'd ever use it and it would free up some space in there so that the battery is easier to remove if it needs doing again. It's really jammed in there, which adds to the hassle as there's very little space in my garage to move about.

Just an update to make the thread useful to anyone. A new battery was required. Offords did a very good job of looking after the car and replacing it.

Yes, I think the alternator is ok Richard :-) Hope so. Nice to see you've still got your VB Tam..

Twinreel.. the battery was never disconnected at any point until it was actually changed for the new one.

I think the battery has been going down hill for quite a while TR as it hasn't been starting very strongly for months. Must be +5 years old. At least I can rule that out now if there are any more issues.
