first off i don't have air con, so am not expecting an icy chill from the air vents, but i don't seem to be able to get unheated air from the dash vents whatever settings i have the dials turned to...its either hot or very hot..

is there some subtle trick I'm missing?

Graham, thank you , i found out how to adjust flaps on the dash..
presume its just a stepper motor position? .

guess its a case of adjusting them with the car at idle with the fans on to see what effect they have...(mine was at 0 by there way)

what i can't find (confess to not looking hard yet) is where the air is drawn from that feeds into the heater matrix.

is could be that with the Ls conversion I've warm water flowing through the heater matrix all the time, so simply cannot get cold air blowing through it..or is there a separate cold air feed they bypasses the matrix altogether?

maybe i should just take it all apart and see what is what...

Graham, thanks for the info.

I've spent time following your suggestions on this and your other threads. the vented are now working as they should, hot out the top on request only , cold out the face vents, hot out of the bottom vents.

when i run the engine, and the rad fans kick in, the heater intake is picking up hot air as you can feel the cold air immediately warm as soon as the fans kick in.

on the tam, i can't see obviously where the air intake for the blower is located much of the lamps are open inside the engine bay, so is the air intake still via the fibreglass up over the front wheel via the tunnel between the inner arch and outer shell passenger side? is the air just picked up via the openings at the back of the headlights where they're open?

would it be useful to shield that area from the rad to prevent rad air getting there?

i can see a couple ali sections on the heater box cover, almost hidden down between the inner wings. i haven't taken the heater apart yet, but wondered what they were for?

not the best pic...

you can make out the rear of the front lamp, some self tappers coming through the fibreglass hold the access panel from under the arch,

there is a small gap however further back and up on the arch where i presume air goes through the inner arch unto the heater blower. so either this area or a direct cold air feed is needed

my tam is an early car and i have noted some differences in a few bits and bobs, so very possibly i don't have a panel that is fitted to later cars

ill have a go and see if i can get a cold air feed direct into this area somehow and see what effect it has.

any more pics of this panel in a tam would be great

Steve take some shots if you rectify it. I can't work out where you are talking about ref the area round the lamp? On my tam there's a removeable panel that's held in place by a self tapper on the left hand side and covers the access to the head lamp and Indicators and finishes just in front of the rad a bit of an off set triangle looking panel.

Pete
thats most likely what i need to make up...

pics would be useful if possible

Buzz, perfect, saved me ages faffing under the bonnet.

Ive a piece of 2mm ali plate and a piece of foam edge trim in post, so i can make up something suitable when the tam is back from DTT next week

I can confirm that adjusting the flaps on the heater as per grahams suggestions has already made a big difference to the interior temps, its much cooler now

Ali will likely transfer the heat, but no problem cover it with heatshield material on fan side, or enclose the entire inner wing section through to the fans with 'tri-iso' 10 layer insulation, for ice box standard.
yep, planned to wrap/cover the ali in the same heat mat I've used throughout the engine bay...

buzz kindly sent me a template for his heater cover, absent on my car, so I've started to make one from black gelcoat backed with fibreglass. planned to use a sheet of ali but the sheet i had to hand wasn't large enough...ill use some edge trim on the top side with a deformable seal to snug up against the underside of the nose....

still got to cut this to size once I've offered Buzz's template up to my car, which is off at trimmers for a little work.
