TVR Power 4.3 here I come - great deal!
Discussion
OK, after wanting this since buying my Tam, I have finally booked my car in for the upgrade.
After seeing the TVR Power link on Facebook, about the group buy, and the potential to save almost £1k on normal price, I made sure I grovelled and squirmed enough for my wife to agree - and she did (albeit slightly begrudgingly..)!
This is the deal:
http://www.powersperformance.co.uk/news/slug/power...
"POWERS PERFORMANCE 2015 GROUP BUY
4.3 SPEED SIX REBUILD
INCLUDES:
DRIVE IN DRIVE OUT 4.3 ENGINE UPGRADE (NORMALLY £8398)
UPGRADE STARTER MOTOR (NORMALLY £270)
UPGRADE INJECTORS (NORMALLY £684)
£8400 INC VAT"
I will also b having new cats, alloy rad, silicon and SS hoses, possible engine mounts, alternator and belt, clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder, and new speed transducer (as mine doesn't work at all now - been stuck on around 30k for a while...)
I have no doubt I shall love it for when the sun finally arrives.

Ask Dom how much to upgrade to a 4.5. After having both , it would be well worth doing for the extra tourqe, but if not the 4.3 is still a great improvement over the standard 3.6 or 4.0. Might see your car in power when having work done.
I can just stretch to the 4.3, and the 4.3 is the one I have always had in mind. Because I have never really found the standard 3.6 wanting, I am sure the 4.3 will be perfect for me.I already had the throttle bodies done, and I am hoping the brand new cats and cooling system will alow the engine to be as good as it can be. (I have read some horror stories regarding old cats strangling performance..)

Because the specialist garage in question knows they are guaranteed the £8690 they charge for 100k miles of servicing (plus the charge for any additional 'problems' the owner may need addressing) which will more than cover their costs if the engine develops a fault while in warranty.
For me, even the 60 mile trek makes sense. I would assume that Power will look after the engine and service it properly, due to the warranty, whereas another more local garage may be tempted to cut corners, but charge the same. I have never had any negative experiences with Power and am more than happy to have my Tam serviced there. For smaller jobs, for example when I decide to break bits, like the handbrake, I always have David Gerald in Redditch - which is 50 miles away...
I am quite excited, have to admit. I have wanted this upgrade ever since I bought my tam..

Well done Chris I knew you would give in, you will be more than happy with the 4.3
As far as the warranty goes your lucky you only live a few miles away and can get it serviced there with out too much trouble so you can have the 100,000 miles warranty which is as many years as it takes to reach 100,000 miles
Or 5 years unlimited mileage warranty if serviced at other TVR garages such as Andy said Dan Taylor which is not far from him or me
So you have the choice if you want to have it serviced at Doms its 100,000 or at say Dan Taylors 5 year unlimited mileage
Andy also what the terms and condition of the warranty is its not yearly service its every 6000 miles so if you only do 3000 miles a year you don't have to get it serviced till it reaches 6000 miles
Hope that clears up the warranty side of things, I have had my Griff engine rebuilt there and picked her up last Saturday got a train from Sittingbourne to Coventry cost me £17.50
The itch wouldn't go away, and when that link for the group buy offer was posted, I had little choice but to scratch it. Can't really afford it right now, so have gone down the route of getting a small loan to cover some of it. At £8.4K including the starter, injectors and VAT, which means a total on around £9k altogether for Dom fitting all the parts I have already bought (including a new speed transducer supplied by Power), it was too much of a good offer to pass up. I was always anticipating around £12k..
I think that after this, I will finally have the car how I want it - Perhaps later I may get the larger brakes and perhaps a CR box, but for now, I am happy!

Chris, is the post-running in mapping an additional cost or is that included in the figure quoted?
I'm so tempted to do this, but my 3.6 has just been given a clean bill of health and dyno'd 363bhp, I was sort of hoping for "issues" to crop up that warranted a new engine but no such luck (as yet).
I don't do Facebook.......makes me wonder what other TVR related deals I miss out on.
I am not 100% sure, but I don't think the 4.3 has the post-running in mapping as standard - that is for the 4.5 and 5 litre - I think.I'm so tempted to do this, but my 3.6 has just been given a clean bill of health and dyno'd 363bhp, I was sort of hoping for "issues" to crop up that warranted a new engine but no such luck (as yet).

You have a very healthy output there!
I think, and I have thought long and hard over this, the 4.3 will be perfect for my Tamora, as I enjoy it most on the twisties. Top speed isn't so important, especially for the open top Tam. I am sure there would be massive problems with the roof flying off (if no extra securing clips haven't been added) past certain speeds. So the peace of mind and better drivabilty/reliability of the 4.3 at (slightly) lower speeds is important to me, especially when I want to drive the Tam to Italy later this year.
You can actually sign up to the TVR Power newsfeed from their site.

Well done that man , you will notice the difference immediately, its not a revvy engine but the torque makes it so much easier to drive as it just burbles along a bit like a V8 but when you hit the loud peddle she flies
You don't need a re-map on the 4.3 only the 4.5 Dom says its to optimize the engine, after mine was re-mapped it is kicking out 141BHP and 368Lb Ft of Torque which does me just fine
If you could stretch to bigger 330mm discs, its worth it as they are so much better than the 280mm discs
Mines back in the body shop for a bit of snagging and while its in there I am getting the backs of the seats sprayed black as they are a funny silver colour and they don,t match the car since I had it re-trimmed with black carpets, I adapted bonnet stay so that the bonnet opens up more and just get that tidied up while its in body shop then I am done
We will have to meet up one day for once yours is done

My seat backs were also silver when I bought mine, and had them changed back to black when I had my re-trim back in May.
I hope mine pumps out a little more than 141bhp though!
I think the next thing (after this) is to get some new rubber and then have my rock ‘ard Nitrons sorted – but for now, I am like a 12 year old coming up to Christmas again!
Also, after this outlay, any other changes/mods will seem like small change.
To me, doing stuff like this is more fun than buying a brand new car – buying a middling Tamora that looked tired inside and slowly making it my own and how I want it.
I must also say that my wife is brilliant! How she puts up with my childish wants, I don't know!
Yes, definitely!

That's where quick reaction times come in! Failing that get some syvecs or similar with traction control. I feel that does defeat the TVR objective a bit though I'll probably eat my words when I'm starting the thread 'Back end broke away. Can anyone recommend a body shop'.....
I have never had any problems with the standard Tam, it is great on the twisties and very predictable, whereas the Chim 450 I had before scared me more, even though it had less power, but more low down torque...

Same as me love to get the car as I want it and it should be there once it gets back from the body shop
As far as traction control goes you could always get Doms put on he did try and sell me that but that,s another £2500, I have had a couple of titchy moments though so ease the power in coming out of corners , but I think it would take away the pureness of driving a TVR by the seat of your pants
silly old sausage I meant 414BHP
Yes, definitely!

I don't want TC, and I have got used to the quick steering rack, as most of fun I have is between 40-70 on the twisties. Although I can completely understand why the guys in the T-350's and Sags want more power and TC, as I see them as more of a GT car.
I did have the Quaife LSD fitted in anticipation of the 4.3 - I still can't believe I am finally having it done. I cannot wait to drive it after the upgrade!

I will be starting the custom dials again soon. either sticke type or plastic cover. prices to be determined I will be approaching suppliers next week.

The new dial face looks interesting. I already have a new digital screen and clear plastic fascia in my drawer - a dial face with Tamora 4.3 on it would be pretty cool, I think.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

(I would have to get someone to install it all for me, though - I have a history with borking even the most simple jobs on my Tam....)

Chris - wow this will be some car when done, the best Tamora in the country? (Probably had the most cash invested in it).
I need to get mine out more, probably only done 100 miles since September. Have serious considered selling lately ...
Cheers! I need to get mine out more, probably only done 100 miles since September. Have serious considered selling lately ...
Although I think I would have a way to go to make it the best - there are quite a few Tamora's out there that have had some superb work and upgrades done.
All I want is for my Tamora to be perfect for me. I sold my first, I won't make that mistake again while I am working..
I haven't used my Tam since about October, too. It's been undercover in the garage, plugged into its battery conditioner life support. As I work from home, the car is mainly on the nice days and driven strictly for fun.

Yes I love it, wait till you get yours back then you will know why, she is in body shop having some snagging done and I am getting the backs of the seats sprayed black to match the re-trim and get my bonnet mod tidied up then she is where I want it
You should have listened to me ages ago but never mind it will be worth the wait
When I first bought the car, I did have every intention of having the 4.3 upgrade first. However, the engine was (and still is, TBH) running quite sweet, so I thought I'd sort out that awful cheap and nasty 'Bison' interior and other aesthetic issues first. I had the Nitrons fitted at the same time, and a while after, I had the Quaife LSD fitted and throttle bodies re-bushed at Power. You should have listened to me ages ago but never mind it will be worth the wait
After the 4.3, I would have spent a lot more on upgrades/getting it right than the initial cost of the car - but I knew this when I bought it, so no big surprise - all part of the fun!
I think I will will have to up the value on my insurance when renewed....
