Welsh Borders run Sunday 15th July
Discussion
Further to my 'Summer Welsh Borders Run' post (below)
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
have decided to go for it, so put it in your diary, get your name on the list and meet us at The Green Man at Fownhope (near Hereford) http://www.thegreenman.co/ on Sunday 15th July from 10am ready for an 11am start.
We will show you the best routes over the borders and into South/Mid Wales including routes through the Brecon Beacons that our friends at EVO told us about (when we spent a couple of days with them in North Wales - but that's a different story and will appear on another thread !)
We promise to seek out the best roads and find fantastic scenery (plus the odd watering hole) and really look forward to meeting old friends and new.
We have been to The Green Man today and had a chat with the manager. At time of writing he has 9 double rooms available for Saturday 14th July and we have negotiated a deal on the room rate. If you pm me I will give you his contact details and the special rate.
As with Mikey K's April N Wales run we think it best to limit car numbers to 20 so please add your name to the list below:
1. Rob & Molly GT in the V8 Vantage S
2. jamespconnor - DB9
3. bananarob - DBS coupe
4. Yeti - DB9 cryptonite edition
5. PDC V8V (Duncan)- V8 Vantage
6. RichV12 - V12 Vantage
7. M@H & Mrs H - DB7 Vantage Volante

11. t1blk
12. Lady Topaz (Di) & Tony

16. 897sma + 1
17. Jockman & Mrs Karen Jockman
18. AMDBSNick
19. Johng39 & Tracey
20. Catalyst V12V
Reserves:

Hi Rich, have added you to the list.
I've thought of a couple of alternatives for local accomodation if you, or anyone else, can't get in to The Green Man:
www.thebowenshotel.co.uk which is in the same village,
or
www.thefalconhouse.co.uk which is 3 miles away.
I know it's still 5 months away so plenty of time for others to opt in but we are giving it lots of thought in the meantime. Indeed, in the name of research, we will be off into Wales for a stopover and to try out some ideas for the route in a month's time. Hoping for some sunshine, looking for great scenery and the chance to put the V8S through its paces round those Welsh mountains

APRIL UPDATE
Hi all, welcome newbies and welcome back those Astonauts just coming out of winter hibernation.
RobGT & I have been busy planning and checking routes for the Welsh Borders run in July but we are holding back on the details 'til we've honed and perfected it (and 'til we've experienced Mikey K's North Wales run at the end of this month - he's a wise man - we might learn something from him ).
LBS has had to back out (due to be elsewhere) but MK says he might be joining us. If you fancy coming too you know what to do.
In the meantime here are some photos
You might see sheep - not all of them will be in fields ...
There will definitely be great driving roads - but there might be another Aston blocking the view ...

B4rnst4ble - great to meet you on friday - I have added you to the list.
897sma - hi - you're in too.
Anyone else wavering - get in quick 'cos 16 out of 20 slots are already taken!
Accomodation if you want to arrange it:
The Green Man at Fownhope (near Hereford) http://www.thegreenman.co/ still had 7 rooms available when I spoke to them earlier today - mention our meet if you call them.
The other suggestions if you can't get in to The Green Man:
www.thebowenshotel.co.uk which is in the same village,
or
www.thefalconhouse.co.uk which is 3 miles away.
We will definitely have a Saturday night get-together in the restaurant at the GM. I reckon Mikey K & I might even make it a bit of a joint birthday party
What do you reckon MK?

Hi Molly, have you assimilated a list of the potential attendees yet . I will probably drive down the morning of the run.
See page 1 of the thread - just 2 gaps left. Well you should be alright driving down on the day - we were going to make an earlier start but, at Yeti's request, we are now planning to set off at 11am (apparently he has some sort of 'work' to do first thing tho' I suspect he just wants a lie-in). We will probably be there from about 10am to make sure everyone's awake, top up our caffeine levels and get ourselves organised for take-off. johng39 said:
Hi Molly Put us down for 1 of those spaces please. Guess you need a rear gunner

Well volunteered that man! Do I get walkie talkies on that deal too?!
Thanks for your company this w/end - we had a right laugh! Saw you approaching in my rear view mirror this morning - poor Tracey! I bet you got back home pretty quickly. No surprise that I took it steady and we were relieved to get baby safely home and tucked up back in the garage. Water everywhere but the ceiling held up so far!
As for Rob (bless him ) - his mate brought Chris home and then needed 'paying'. Yep - they are down the pub, so if anyone sees any posts by him later - do not expect them to make any sense!

Molly I have a couple of 8km radios as well
You might want to delete all the footnotes from the first post when you next edit.
Thanks Mikey. You might want to delete all the footnotes from the first post when you next edit.
Actually, I had a tidy up earlier and swept away those footnotes. Should have done it before but I'm not used to having so many visitors to this post (hello Jockman)!

Start saving up Di and Tony -we're booked into the Greenman for Saturday night but might be relying on a drop out for the run itself.
What a relief Tony and I failed to convince the barmaid for a lock in
Hi Andrew, well done on getting booked in - we will look forward to seeing you again. Will put you on the reserve list for the run-out & see what transpiresWhat a relief Tony and I failed to convince the barmaid for a lock in
Now then chaps - pay attention, here's the plan:
RobGT, God help us, will be leader of the pack (NO alcohol the previous night - I've made him promise tho' I expect I shall have to offer him some sort of bribe)! I shall, of course, be his co-pilot
I know I'm mixing my metaphors here but ... lets have mid-shipsman Mikey rounding them up in the middle of the pack (with the lovely Mrs K doing some stunt photography again)
Rear gunner johng39 - a very capable, experienced chap bringing up the rear
Now I just need suggestions as to what we should do with this chap - the Wing Commander:
What-ho - chocs away!

..there is something somewhat odd about staying 25 minutes from your own home ..
Hi Matt - you've been quiet lately, good to hear you haven't forgotten we have the grand Herefordshire plan in July! Are you staying in Fownhope? We wont be staying - as stated above - I need Rob to have a clear head for the drive the next day!Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
