Dear All

Some of you may know that I am the Area representative for the AMOC in Area 1 which is SW London and Surrey. Having recently taken part in the annual meeting of worldwide reps at club HQ I was very interested in the demographic of the current membership of which only 33% is made up of Gaydon car owners. This is less than 2000 members who own a DB9, Vantage, DBS, Rapide, etc!

Because of the much greater number of these cars produced I imagined that the membership would be more, so I would appreciate it if any of you, particularly in my area would let me know whether you are a member and if not, why not. Any feedback from any region of the country would be helpful but especially Area 1 as I already know how many members I have.

I don’t think anyone at the club has ever asked the question and as what should be a growing number of you joining the club once you enter car ownership, that doesn’t appear to be the case. You are a big part of the future of the club and I really would like to be able to present your comments to the club for their input.

If you want to email me separately rather than post on the forum then let me know at timbutcher@trinityastonmartin.co.uk.

This is great guys, keep the comments coming.

I was at the AGM where John Goldsmith was voted in as new chairman and the day before was the reps meet.

I mentioned the event we had at Trinity, and how all of you that attended were so positive towards the Marque and how the AMOC should tap into the ownership that it is missing out on by not listening.

Time will tell if the new people in charge of the club will do what is necessary or follow the old guard as has been mentioned.

For your information, my club ownership goes back some years and an interesting thing to note is that in the newsletters of the day, that when the DBSV8 came out in 1971, owners of the Newport Pagnell DB4/5/6's were commenting on the fact that the V8's were not 'proper Astons' The same happened when the DB7's came in and so on. This is not a new occurence.

There is no doubt that the Gaydon car owners are generally younger than the usual AMOC member but you will be the owners that take the club through the next couple of decades. Someone needs to listen to you!

One of the main reasons I started this post was to find out your views and you have all been great in voicing your opinions. I will be going back to the club memebership secretary with all of the information you have given.

My opinion is that the club needs to gell together and welcome the newer car owners. I mentioned before that whenever there is a new model, the previous model owners find it difficult. The situation at the moment seems to be the fact that there are a large number of cars being build in comparison to the earlier models. Aston Martin have gone from a company that produced around 200 cars a year in the 1980's to one that produces several thousand a year now. That is the way the current leadership at Gaydon are taking the company but it's a new concept for older car owners. This doesnt mean that as a club there should be any difference between the owners.

If you came to an Area 1 meeting I would'nt care if you had your car painted pink with black spots, you would be welcome. Apart from the fact you would be a huge talking point!!

I speak as an owner of a 1978 OI V8 Vantage owner (Max, yours looks lovely), I have the Works Prototype DB7GT and am on the look for the right V8 Vantage. All three cars drive and behave completely differently but they are still Aston's. Old or new they are still very special.

If any of you have interesting stories about your cars, send them to me and i'll push them as far as I can. A lot of the time the publication people don't have the time (because it's a volunteer capacity like an Area rep)to write anything and rely on good copy coming through from members.

My fear is that the club splits as has been mentioned and an AMDC being formed. This has happened to most clubs, Jaguar, Rolls, Bentley and it can't be a good idea. I have followed the club's activities for nearly 35 years so if that makes me an old fart in some eyes then so be it. I can wear that badge. The important thing is to get veiw points heard and acted upon as soon as possible. If the new Chairman and CoM coming in take your views on board then its a start.

Dear all

I am sorry to let you know but we have had to change the night of the Area 1 monthly meeting. I realise this is such short notice but the Onslow Arms have a band on virtually every Wednesday night now and the car park is too full to support a load of Astons.

It will now be the second Tuesday of every month and that means tonight!!!! I hope this doesnt screw up any ones plans and I really hope we see you down there.

Once again my apologies but we had little choice.
