I was stopped this evening @ 530pm by an un-marked black Mercedes A-Class when I exceeded the 50mph limit on the Kingston By-Pass just past the Hook Under Pass on the A3. He just said it was bad luck and smiled as he awarded me 3pts. Didn't ask for ID or my license saying that the car had video equipment that did it all automatically.

Just out of interest, by how much were you exceeding the 50mph limit?
60-65mph. Wish I'd been in the Land Rover but I was intoxicated by the open road, 3rd gear and the noise so it was a fair cop. Apparently this section is a dangerous piece of road.

It will be 2weeks tomorrow since I was stopped on th A3 and I haven't received anything from the Police. I thought there was a 14 day window in which I should have received a penalty notice.

I presume there was a conversation where he asked the OP to confirm his name and address, thus identifyihng himself as the driver. Otherwese very weird if either one of you just remained silent. I take it you've never been pulled by plod? wink

His car has ANPR linked to DVLA, if the name and address you give confirms the ANPR details, that's all he needs to know.
His exact words were pls step out of the car to discuss your three points. He did not ask for my licence despite my offering it. I admitted I was over the 50mph but he didn't say what speed. I apologised, he shook my hand and that was it. I've had a clean licence for 15yrs so no other incidents to compare this one to.

Jeremy, did he give you a ticket..? I believe you still have to be served with a notice of IP?
No nothing. I wasn't asked for ID, if it was my car, what speed I was doing, nada.

Was the officer in uniform?

I haven't seen this thread until today but the sequence of events sounds most unlike the proper procedure. It either wasn't a police officer at all or it was a police officer throwing his weight around. There's no way a car like that would be equipped with video equipment and the officer should have positively established the driver's identity.
Yes he was and on his own. It was all over in 5mins and off he went.
