I wanted to get the V12VR VentureShielded before our trips, and last time I'd looked there didn't seem to be anyone local to me in the Midlands. I had thought I would need to travel to Peterborough, which would have been a bit of a pain. When I looked last week, 3M listed a firm called TonyJamesDesigns who were pretty local for me in Shirley, Birmingham. I hadn't heard of them before, but a quick internet search indicated that they seemed to know what they were doing and the email communications were professional and the quotes very competitive, offering a number of custom options.

I delivered the car to Tony's immaculate unit not far from the Porsche and Ferrari dealers in Birmingham yesterday. Tony talked me through the options and even offered to add some extra sections at no further charge as they would require no additional material due to using waste from the nesting of the standard parts. When he heard we were due to be travelling shortly, he made up a simple piece to protect the boot lip opening when loading luggage which we could easily discard after the tour if we wished, which I thought was a nice touch.

Tony offers two options for the bonnet - the standard 3M one which comes up to just below the vents, or a custom one which protects the leading edge but follows the contours from the wing badge on the bonnet. He explained that this option was popular for people with darker colours, as the line is not as noticeable across the bonnet. I certainly noticed that the line on my previous Quantumn Silver (very dark silver) car was pretty noticeable, and if I'd had a similar dark colour on this car I think I would have gone for the option (which is cheaper as it uses less film). However on the lighter coloured cars the line is much less noticeable so I went for the standard kit with the extra coverage.

It turns out Tony originally developed the 3M kit for Aston Martins and so knows the cars extremely well. After giving me a lift back to my workplace, Tony washed the car applied the shield (after temporarily removing the number plate plinth as that will be going when my own plate is transferred) and polished the car beautifully, allowing me to collect the car 7 hours later looking gorgeous as shown in the attached photo.

I have absolutely no affiliation with the company and indeed had never heard of them until I found them online last Friday, but Tony did a superb job at an excellent price and certainly looked after the car.
