Doors Wont Lock

Anyone have any ideas on this one ?

Lock the car with the remote, the doors go clunk then clunk again, so locks then immediately unlocks again ?

Both doors the same, it will eventually lock but it takes many tries and is getting worse ....

Dealer says it needs both lock modules changing as the sensor that thinks the door isnt closed properly is broken

Does anyone know if this can just be disconnected as the modules are £ 270 each plus the VAT and with labour I have been quoted over £ 1,000 !

Seems like an expensive fix ... the car is a 2006 Vantage ...

Interesting .... are the fuses in the standard box or on the module ?

I will try this evening ... it happened after a service at a main dealer who said ' it is a coincidence Sir '

Thanks for the advise ... not had a chance yet but will have a look at the weekend certainly .... its a right pain as it makes it rather difficult to use when you have a worry about it not being secure .... have read also about the battery level being critical also, its on a battery trickle charger all the time so I will try as well with the charger connected and fresh and see if that makes a difference also

Ok, dont the fuse pull, thankfully they are easy to get to ( ! ) and so with only a simple tool kit you can find that the cable loom is over the fuses ... after some more messing about managed to pull the fuses and waited a few minutes ... put the fuses back and things are improved ( it will actually lock now ) but still only 50% of the time although this is a lot better than before where the success rate was 0% !

Anyone have any other ideas of how to get this 100% ?

Thanks for the input ... the battery is on a trickle charger all the time and I have tried with this connected and it makes no difference but I may try a new battery as a least cost option

I was surprised that the fuse pull reset just made them better, I was expecting a 100% fix or nothing at all !

It does seem that as an expensive car security would be high on the mind of the person that specified these parts ... are they Volvo bits by any chance ?

Had a price of £ 270 a side from the main dealer plus VAT ...

Hmmm ... mine worked fine until it was in for its service at the Main Dealer then they never worked afterwards ... they told me it was a co-incidence but Im not convinced ... will try the reset again and maybe a battery off one as well

A new battery is an ' investment ' too so maybe this is a good idea just to try all the options before finally giving up and getting a new pair of them

New battery on order here in time for the weekend so will get the ' battery off ' reset done then too and a fresh set of 12 V up it !

The final instalment !

Changed the battery last night ( thank you Aston Martin for making this so easy ! I wonder if the dealers charge so much money as you have to take the roof off to change the oil filter ? ) Who had the idea of putting the battery there ! And holding it down with two forms of clamps with different fasteners on in inaccessible places ! Why ?

Anyway, replaced the battery with the same make but an uprated version ( Varta Silver ) for a very reasonable £ 83.50 inc VAT and delivery from Performance Batteries

Pushed the button and they locked first time and no wont fail ! Fantastic ! No more having to try the doors each time I park and waiting to hear the clunk - clunk of lock - unlock each time I walk away !

The battery that was on the car was the original so I guess it was due for a replacement ... even though the old one was on a trickle charge this new one cranks the car much more enthusiastically so there is a big difference .... a fresh MOT tomorrow and ready for the summer again !

And ..... Its back !

All working fine until Saturday then now wont lock at all again !!!!

I just cant understand it ! After the battery swap all was perfect and on Saturday morning all well, took the car out to pick something up and had to come home as it wont *&"£*&^!"£!*&kin lock again ...

That 911 is looking a whole lot more tempting again !

So ... history ...

Soft reset ( fuse pull ) made them better
Full reset / new battery initially made them perfect
24 hours later they wont lock at all again

Any ideas before I go and buy a can of petrol !

Its beginning to look like modules ...

Battery is on a trickle charger so is nice and topped up when I tried it, even changed the charger to make sure it was working OK too

I can change the modules my self but its just a pain to do so ... checked out all the electrical stuff ( that is what I do - well did, now is sit at a desk ! - for a living as we build specialist vehicles )

I thought I had fixed it with a hard reset ( battery off ) and a new battery but it came back after 24 hours ... mine is exactly the same as yours, apparently the car thinks that the door is not shut and so opens the lock again

I have no more progress so far Im afraid, just due to lack of time and another car to play with ! My next move was to take the door car off and see if I can disconnect the ' door shut ' sensor and see if this makes it better

Apparently you have to buy the modules in pairs and change them together ( they are handed ) and then they both have to be programmed to work together ...a right pain especially as they are not cheap, my MD quoted me £ 1,200 all in for the modules, fitting, programming and VAT ... a bargain !

Any more ideas / news would be welcome by me also !

SPEND LOTS OF MONEY - a great help !

I'm not done yet ... As this is a common problem it seems I am determined to find a low cost cure for this, forking out £ 650 on bits to fix a simple fault does not seem like good value to me ...

With a bit of time I will get there I am sure #
