Silverstone are very expensive, cheapest circuit £12,800 + vat for the National circuit + loads of risk assessment nonsense. Donington have nothing available until 31st Oct (too cold). Snettertons new 300 circuit is available on Friday 19th September @ £9,300 + vat. Facilities are similar to Rockinghams: http://www.snetterton.co.uk/

I'm all ears. ears

Rockingham was £8,250 + vat.

I'm sure you can get Cadwell for about £6k+ VAT.

It's 5 hours each way to Snetterton for me, too far frown
Cadwell wouldn't be that much closer for you George. You're probably right about the cost but its an even greater distance for the vast majority to travel. Its also not easy to find a circuit that can accomodate us on a Friday as they are mostly test days for Saturday races.

Give us time and we'll sort out the best deals and hope that geographically we can find something further west and north. wink

Martyn, sorry you'll not be able to make Snetterton,,although I'm not totally convinced that you won't. scratchchin

The track is certainly more than 30% longer and a dam sight newer. Because of the greater track length than Rockingham it would be able to absorb more cars without it appearing crowded. It also has much longer straights so we will be able to really stretch the legs of our cars. I don't know about anyone else but I found it difficult to get out of 4th gear anywhere on the track apart from the straight/corner 1 and only managed to reach around 110/120. Speaking to the lead Instructor at Rockingham (Steve Lewis) at the end I asked him which tracks would suit the Astons, he came back with Donnington, Snetterton and Silverstone (but only if it was the F1 circuit).

He also said that as a freelance team they could provide the instruction at Snetterton but that would have to be arranged when the booking was made by telling them we would be providing our own instructors.
30 cars would be fine at Snetterton I'm sure, if the demand is there we could go to a max 35. I have been emailed by the Rockingham instructors, so they are on board if we need them. I'll see what deal I can get from Snetterton, they are aware of the excellent deal we enjoyed at Rockingham and are prepared to be flexible. smile I'll be back later today with more. Meanwhile off down to Lancasters to have some front wheel balancing done, as it became worse in the afternoon it brought a premature end to our day on Friday. driving

Here for your info, I have this proposal from the Snetterton events coordinator:

Snetterton 300 – Friday 19th September
Circuit Hire £9300
Public Liability Insurance £160.20
Total £9460.20 +VAT

The above is the minimum that you would need to pay. You will need the following items to run the event, but these can be provided by you if you have access to them.

Chief Instructor £275 (Delivers the driver briefing and runs the event. Needs to hold an “S” grade ARDS instructor licence)

Team Leader £120 (Handles all of the signing-on admin such as licence checks and filling in and checking of indemnity forms)

I’m happy to let you have helmet hire FOC (usually £10 per helmet used).

I can also organise additional instructors to provide in-car 1-2-1 tuition throughout the day. They are £225 per day. We can run the session straight after lunch for partners as you had at Rockingham.

We have the Tyrrells restaurant which can either serve a range a hot and cold meals (dependant on numbers), or a set menu for your members. If you have an idea of the number of attendees I can speak to the chef and ask what he can offer you and at what price.

  • ***************************************************************************************************************
I have asked one of the Rockingham Instructors for his day rate,,,will post up his reply.

Bob you are in charge and rightly so. Rockingham was 100% perfect. I was amused by the fact that you managed to get the bank of rain to miss us as well. clap
I am right in thinking that Snetterton is Aston Martin attendance only ? wink
Was Donington considered as well? Years ago I used to take prospective BMW customers there. I remember the circuit being quite demanding.
I'm sure we all imagine/prefer Snetterton to be Aston Martin cars only,,,why do you ask Rob?

L.D. has asked if its ok for two of his work colleagues that both own Asting Martings, that are not forum members but could be, if they could join us at Snetterton. I am repeating the question here; Do we agree they can join us or do we give our existing members (26 of whom went to Rockingham) the chance to sign up again first? confused

PS: Rob, I did speak to Donington first but they had nothing available this time. I'm sure we'll get there in the future. wink

L.D. I feel as others here have commented, that we can welcome both your Aston owning friends along to Snetterton. However, from an admin standpoint, it would make it easier if they would kindly sign up onto the forum, introduce themselves and for the sake of my workload, keep up with events by following the thread,,,,they may even feel inclined to contribute, which would be a good thing for everyone. thumbup

I've had confirmation from the Rockingham instructors that they are willing to attend Snetterton @ £225 per instructor, so matching the rates offered by Snetterton,,,thoughts gentlemen please.

Two points Bob.

1. It would be great to use the same guys as before as I said earlier. They could pick up from where we left off last time and to be honest I think we all got on pretty well with them. I attended the 'Classroom Lesson' after lunch where the principal instructor gave some good pointers to first time track drivers which certainly gave my good lady the confidence to go out with an instructor (First time she had ever driven the car) and have a dozen enjoyable laps.

2. There is a danger of upsetting the local track instructors which may/could cause some bad feeling before we even get there. (Unless of course Snetterton also uses 'Freelance teams' in which case it shouldn't make any difference to the track owners who we use).
1. I have been advised that the Rockingham instructors will be available @ £225 per instructor.

2. If you read carefully the details offered to us in my page 4 post, Snetterton are happy for us to supply our own instructors.

I'm sorting the chief instructor and Team leader question tomorrow.

Our day so far; Excluding lunch, which although a menu will be available will have to be paid for individually, here is a break down and total of the charges I've negotiated, hope you approve:

Snetterton 300 (3 mile circuit) – Friday 19th September

Circuit Hire £9300
Public Liability Insurance £160.20
£9460.20 +VAT
£11325 inc VAT
Chief Inst.(S grade) + 2 A grade total £725
Total £12050

@35 entrants, thats £344 per car.

The 3 instructors are the guys from Rockingham. They will take care of the Team Leader role, signing in, licence checks etc. so we have made a saving there.

I will ask for breakfast bacon/sausage butties to be provided if you so wish. smile

You are of course correct, thanks Andrew,,,,you're not I hope charging me separately for the advice,,,hehe

So we need to extend our list to 35 entrants. L.D. your two work colleagues, plenty of room for them now, just ask them to post up on the forum and add themselves please. wink

Tyres..... Just an idea... If it sounds daft then can leave it, but what if I can arrange a mobile tyre van to be on site for the day?? Some people had a couple of tyre issues.. I know Bob had to cut his day a bit short (which is a real shame as he put so much effort in organising the day for us all) & Bismark nearly couldn't drive home??

Depending on costs and how competitive they are some might be on low-ish tyres for the day and might want to pre order some new boots to ensure a safe journey home??

Like I said... Just a thought... scratchchin

I don't mind pitching in a bit to sort this...
Rat Boy, (sorry but it does have a ring to it), my problem at Rockingham was balance on my off-side front, it suddenly got worse (maybe threw a weight) and made high speed (90+) uncomfortable. I've had it sorted, 73gms added, smooth as silk now. However, difficult to argue that having a tyre back-up service at Snetterton would be anything other than a good thing. yes

But a colossal waste of time and money for the fitters unless they're going to sell ten full sets. And I'd rather not have my wheels banged about in a mobile van.

So they could have rebalanced a wheel and maybe fitted a pair for someone at Rockers. Not a profitable days work for them...
That to be honest is exactly what I feel too Yeti,,,I cannot imagine it could ever be a 'profitable' excercise.

I'm sure we all agree we would much rather not have our wheels banged about but perhaps selfishly, in a 'get me home emergency' one would I'm sure be very grateful for the support. So Rat Boy, what do you reckon, its a difficult one. confused

It was just a thought.... Like I said, if general feeling is a no no then we can just leave it.... It probably would be hard to find some one, as yeti said they most likely wouldn't earn a great deal?? But I am always in the mind that if you don't ask.... You don't get!! And any things worth a try...

And I know that some of those mobile vans can be a bit ropey, but have also seen some well kitted vans that would be fine...

I really don't mind ether way as I will always have a spare set of wheels (just in case)... It was just after seeing poor Bismarks tyre hanging off and Bob having to cut the day a little short after applying so much effort!!
If you wouldn't mind making some enquiries then Paul. Its never going to be a money spinner, so the 'better' mobile operators will likely not be interested. As Speculatore suggested, we need an Aston owning set up. smile

Latest,,,,I have received confirmation form the Snetterton Track Hire Manager that our Track Day is assured. We will have 3 of the Rockingham Instructors to guide us through our day; The big chief Steve Lewis, grade S and has in the past run events at Snetterton, also Michael Broadhurst and Karl Goshawk that are both grade A Instructors. Further details to follow as I have them. Great to see the places being filled, I'm sure Snetterton will not disappoint. driving

I would be incredibly nervous about taking it on track. But I would have a go on a track I know well. That narrows it down to Donington, Oulton or Cadwell. When there's a day organised at those I'll have a do smile
I will try for Donington next time around George (they are very busy and booked up now until November). You are not the first to suggest Donington, although others may have chosen it more for its physical appeal than its geography. Oh, by the way, a young lady (25yrs) was asking about you yesterday, she wondered if you would be at Snetterton,,,,well, what could I say George. confused
