I'm pleased to report that the sudden engine cutout issue has been fixed - a problem that has foxed 2 AM dealerships and cost 2 days of diagnostic time has been solved by BR in a matter of minutes. Where things get interesting is how the fault came about......

My car is a much cherished 2007 V8 vantage, owned from new from an Essex Dealership. It's received main dealer servicing, as has my daily driver Jaguar XF for all of its life. IN January it developed a strange fault and would shutdown completely on going round corners and leave me in rather perilous locations. Not food having lost all power an lights on the snake pass in the pitch black, not good at all....

An impromptu visit to the local dealership revealed lots of fault codes but techs couldn't find an obvious cause and sent me on my way. The fault was still present and another visit, this time from my purchasing dealer revealed a barrage of fault codes, but again no obvious cause. As a precaution they swapped over my under bonnet fuse box to rule out the issue. They also mentioned that it could be the ECU or other expensive control modules which may need to be replaced - but there would be no comeback on the cost if the parts had no effect!

Increasingly frustrated by this and the lack of any headway, I've sent the car this morning to Bamford Rose and after being with them for 5 minutes, the problem was duly solved...

Turns out that at some point in my cars history the EGR pipe was removed and the exhaust manifold was fiddled with (see pic). The exhaust manifold was ill fitting and leaking. The EGR pipe was pushed back against the main power cable, melting it and causing a short. Mike said I was lucky to not have a smouldering wreck on my hands given the amount of pyrotechnics when the short occurs....

So there you have it, Bamford Rose know their stuff and if any of you fellow owners have a similar issue this post should make life easier. This experience has shaken my confidence in dealer techs, but particularly my main dealer for causing the damage. There also appear to be brand new parts (ECU) which I wasn't even aware of!

A friend of mine said that in my position, he would go for a CCj for costs incurred and negligence. I myself think that life's too short and just want to get things working again.....

Saw that today when I popped into BR to see their setup. You are so lucky there have been quite a few of the TVR speed six cars that have gone up in flames with a similar problem on the anderson connector they have, the warning for them is a sticky thread here on PH.
Hopefully the new section of cable will be installed soon and you can enjoy your car.
In your situation I would definitely be asking for a refund on my costs and an explanation as to how they missed something like that.

I'm more concerned about how things would've turned out if a fire started - a car can be replaced. Add in an exhaust leak with a bit of fuel thrown in an a spark and well it doesn't leave much to the imagination. Not on a vendetta here with main dealers. I can forgive the first dealership to some degree as I turned up with it without warning. Seems that the damage was caused/occurred by main dealer maintainance though.

Dear all,

Please take the time to pop your bonnets open and look in the same place to ensure your cars aren't similarly afflicted - It would be most upsetting if other forum users didn't benefit from my experience....

Sorry to unashamedly bring up this post again.

i am wondering if it is worth the effort in pursuing my dealership regarding this issue? My wife and friends reckon I am being a mug for letting it go - I'm just relieved that my car is working properly.

The has only been worked on by the Essex dealer I purchased it from new. Any work, whether done well or badly has been performed by the dealership .Would any of you pursue this point with the dealer, that their work has cost me 2 days of diagnostic time and a stay at independent before resolution?

I'm still peeved that my efforts to maintain an AM service, and the associated premium, has left me with a broken car....
