Buying used - AM or independent warranty

The clutch that has failed on a PH user's used car today is an interesting example for me about purchasing from a car specialist rather than dealer (no reference to any sellers here, just a consumer car buying protection conversation).
Specialist tend to offer something similar to an AA/Warrantywise Warranty for 3-6 months (small print usually shows maximum claim is £5k and has limited cover on type of items you can claim), typical recon engine replacement costs can be £12-18K fitted or gearbox less. The AA/RAC style warranty does not cover wear and tear items like clutches or drive shafts. If your engine failed you would only have around £5K towards the cost.
An AM dealership Premium warranty covers any size claim (as I found out with my car V8V 07 having over £40K of AM warranty claims). The AM warranty does not cover everything obviously, trim and cosmetics excluded, other items too. On the whole it is extremely comprehensive.
To people looking to purchase a used AM just have this in the back of your mind when your battling away over the value difference in purchase of £2-5K in the cost of a used car. I hope this was helpful thought for any people thinking of buying a used AM

The dealership did replace my clutch though foc after 2000 miles (3 months) when it started to fail. I felt reassured in purchasing from the dealership chain after this activity.
I agree with the psyche that reselling your car is a great deal easier on the Private market with an AM warranty.
