Evening all,

Good friend looking to get into the marque and he has come across this DB9. He's worried about any hidden work requirements. Anyone familiar? Ta.

I don't know the car, but the garage is 5 mins up the road from me.

If it would save you a journey, I could go and have a look at the weekend for you.
Simon, that's really kind, thank you. He'll be passing there later this week, but if you're close and fancy a gander it might be nice to have someone in the know just cast an eye over it. My mate has never owned an AM before, although he's fairly car savvy, and will have the car inspected before making any decisions. Top man, thank you.

Update, in between the banter wink, he's had a look and it's not great. Rethink required, so thanks for your input fellas. Simon, no requirement to view over weekend, thanks.

Hi Bincenzo,

I've toyed with the idea of getting an early DB9 maybe next year and this would be the sort of car I would be looking at. For future reference can you add anything about it "not being great", it looks nice in the pics. What should one look out for on a car of this age?

I notice a lot of the older DB9s do have high mileages (70k+) so they're obviously driven rather than garage queensclap. What's the general opinion on the board, do these go on for ever or is this when (expensive) problems will start to kick in. Are there happy owners with 150k mileage cars?

(I once had a Grand Voyager, lovely car but it just totally fell apart when it hit 90k miles)
Hi Northbloke,

As I understand it, and I'm no expert but have spoken to a man who is, the early DB9's, say up to '06, are getting on a bit. Electronics can be a bit shaky and if an engine has not been looked after well, it can be a very expensive problem to inherit. Check for ticking/rattling on the engine. I think they are much more likely to be problematic than the V8. That said there are some fabulous examples around but I'd look for lower mileage if it were me. My friend mentioned the whole car looked well used, interior and exterior. It was also from an indie, which is not necessarily an issue, but there are certain Indies you'd buy from and some you wouldn't. I don't know this one and cannot comment. As Nick says in the above post, an inspection is an absolute must.....and make sure it's a good one. Use the forum to ask as many questions as possible and buy Grants book if you haven't already done that, it's fabulous. Good luck.
