Hi

I have been for a while thinking of buying a DBS and was wondering if you gents and ladies (If there any with one) can give me some pointers (good and bad) about them. I have already got a copy of Grants book which has given me a few useful hints etc.

I am un-decide between a Coupe or Volante but I want a low milage late model year car.

So please give me your worst!

Hi

Thank you all for your comments, most of which are what I was also thinking my self.
I will answer a few questions which were asked. I am after an auto due to the fact after an accident I can now no longer drive a clutch/geared car as well as I would like. That is the main reason why I am selling most of my collection of TVR's.
Ref the question which car have I been driving lately, I presume by this you mean a performance car, well that would be one of the TVR's I am keeping, my 4.5 Cerbera, which is faster than a DBS but not quite in the same style.
Ref the coupe in Exeter for sale yes it's a bargain and low milage, but it's not the car I am after, my budget is £110 to £125K so I should find a good car with that, if my wife gets here way it will be a coupe, but as a staunch TVR owner I have the roof off even with the weather it's like to day, (Cold but sunny) So I am still possibly looking for a Volante! I noticed a couple of people were a bit against them, apart from the lack of sunshine, is there another reason?

Hi

I agree Black is a common colour smile

But there again it's one of the colours I am looking at!

Then if I could find one it this colour instead of black!

I am also looking for a Tungsten Silver car as well!

I like the idea of an Ultimate apart fron the quilt leather on the seats etc, I would also need to see what it looks like on the roof of the Carbon edition.

Hi

Thanks again for your comments, it's nice to see people responding also it's not a surprise that even this forum just like many other's get side tracked from the original posted topic rolleyes

Another question is I have seen a car which is catching my attention but it's not in a main dealership, do you know if the local Aston main dealer will do the 140 point inspection (For a charge.) plus could I also then still take out the Aston Martin extended warrantee etc?

Hi

Again thanks for your replies.

The car in question is still under Aston's initial three year warrantee till 28/9/15 and the dealer are very happy to also put an RAC warrantee on the car, plus let it go to a local Aston Martin dealership for a service and inspection.

Hi Nick

Romans car is one of the cars I am looking/thinking about so any views on it would be a help, it could save me a lot of time and money!

I am not a great fan of the diamond look but the silver stitching is not so in your face as some.

I will of course keep you informed.

My biggest problem is waiting for the sale of my collection of TVR's, so that can help pay for it!

tbh the quilted trim still doesn't flaot my boat BUT IF IT DOES YOU THEN GO FOR IT....you won't be disappointed with owning a DBS
Thanks for your comments, I agree the quilted look is not my first choice, this one is better with the silver stitching than the other two for sale with the red stitching.

The problem is to get one of the last doesn't give you many to chose from and then there's the colour choice again this restricts you even more.

But then if you want exclusivity .bow

Hi

I have been offered a 2010 Carbon Black edition with 13k miles on the clock from a main dealer.

Any thoughts on them as a option.

This has been going on for 17 lonnnng days!

I lasted one dealer and one test drive and one week! I admire your resolve!

Have you test driven the car and decided on that? Right price? AM dealer? Warranty? Get it bought!

Are you still going for 'colour'?

And post the pics when you have done the deed!
Selon

Thanks for your reply.

This is a big purchase for some and I want to make certain I get it write, I don't have £100k to just throw around, so I am asking the questions from people who hopefully have the answers. Silly of me I know. spin

Yes I have now looked and test driven 5 cars (They were all different in many ways.) and I have today, I think found the car for me, and I hope from a good dealer (There certainly are some differences in them.)
Yes it's all personal opinion but any comments good or bad will help my decision.

The car in question is a Carbon Black 2010 car with 13k on the clock. The wife is happy with it, so that's one question sorted! wobble

If anybody can help with this last question then I can make the decision and buy the car in the next week or so!

Plus if I get it write it will also mean I can keep my collection of TVR's as a bonus! Not ever bodies choice I know but it's mine!

I see there is another Silver Fox Ultimate edition for sale. Same (hefty) price but more agreeable interior
Hi

Funny that I was just looking at a video of the above car, which they sent me yesterday. If it was Black I would be down there tomorrow, but there again the wife says she like's the colour better than black and she didn't scream when I showed her the price.
The cb car at Stratstones is still of interest but looking at a few post on her I am having 2nd thoughts about dealing with them. The car had some damage to the front splitter which I pointed out to them, they said they will sort that, plus the centre consul had a chip out of the piano black surface again they said they would sort that. To me things like this should be sorted before the put them up for sale!
I had driven another DBS there in December and that had crap brakes and crap wheels and so many rattles inside, of course I walked away then and may also with the CB car. I am hoping they say this week these jobs are done so I can go and inspect it before we start talking final money!

In fairness Andy most dealers, not just AM, will carry out all rectification work/servicing/detailing once a sale has been agreed to ensure the vehicle is in top condition for when the customer takes delivery. Nothing worse than refurbing wheels or splitters for them to be subsequently damaged when the car is on a test drive and have to do it all again.
So long as you get any rectification works to be done agreed in writing I wouldn't see a problem. If they then don't do the work agreed they have failed in their contract with you and you either don't accept the car or again get it in writing that the work will be carried out within a certain time frame or you will return the car for a full refund.
Hi Kev

I can agree this with lesser car's like TVR's I expect that and I have had a few as you know. But Aston's should be offered for sale in as near a perfect condition, for the price they are wanting. The main dealers have there slick showrooms and you then go and look at there car's for sale and they are in some case's like an Arther Daily car lot!
Yes it can cost them money, but at time I bet they lose customer's because of it.
Take the DBS I drove at your favourite Aston dealer before Christmas. I had contacted them before hand and made an appointment, first they sit you down offer you tea, coffee etc because the sales person (Being politicaly correct crap) was not ready for us. He then took us to look at the car, great so far. Then he goes to start it to move it forward so Rose and I can get in. Now he knows we are coming so they know it was going on a test drive. yes you guest it. batt as flat as f_ _t so back into the showroom another drink while they try and sort it, half a hour later we can try the car. Then the test drive didn't go well because the car had faults (Suspension appeared to be stuck in sport mode)
Then another dealer I tried, I went to the car and the paint work around the handle was bubbled up. Then yet again to another dealer and test drive, the brakes were grinding etc, then the rattles from the rear, typical salesman blamed it on the trade plates on the rear shelf!
What planet do the think you come from!
After the test drive I then noticed the state of the wheels and made a comment about them. I gave all of these things as a reason why I didn't want the car. I go back 4 weeks later to test the CB car and the first car was beside the CB car and the wheels had been done and it looked like new disc had been fitted.
Now they did that after my test.
So my point is if they had done that first then I may have purchased the car! Instead the car has been sitting around for 4 more weeks (May be longer as I don't know how long they had the car.)

Hope you got your new Porker OK!

Andy

Hi Andy

As you know from our discussions at the recent TVR meet there is it seems a limit to how much money they will spend after a sale as well.

Kev
Hi Kev

Yes that is a bit disturbing, I am surprised they didn't send it to works to see if they could sort the problem, especially as it was a late car! But because of that and they way they handled my test drive it has at present put me off them. If they do come up with a car I want I also would take it else were to get it serviced.
