Can't keep quiet anymore!!!!!!!!!
Discussion
We spent a fabulous few hours up at Gaydon last Thursday seeing our new Aston in the early stages of its build. Having been lucky enough to see our current one in build back in 2012 that one was very close to being nearly finished whereas this one was very early in the production run but very easy to spot - for reasons which will become clear
After many months of trying to decide whether we should buy a classic Aston or go for a new one we went against all investment sense and ordered a new V12 Vantage S Roadster. Whilst I would have loved to have gone for a DB7 Zagato or a V550 what we really wanted was one that we wouldn't mind putting miles on and not feel the need to keep it down to low mileage to maintain value. Our decision was to go for fun!!!!!
I know we already have a V12 Vantage Roadster and am very pleased to say we will be keeping that one but perhaps doing a few less miles each year in it, although we already have one European tour booked for it. You may question getting something so similar but we absolutely love the car we have at the moment! It's been great on tour, we love open top motoring and the noise of the V12 is just immense
The new one will look a bit different to the existing one. It will be Flugplatz Blue with a Dark Knight interior and California Poppy accents & stitching. It will have black lightweight wheels, lightweight seats, lots of CF outside and Q are putting a full carbon fibre centre stack for us. The only thing I don't like about the current car is the PB fascia and that is also being swapped to full CF as well. A great BOGOF deal - well not quite!
The new one looked fantastic on the line and our thanks to Steve, who gave us the factory tour, and took us back to the car on four times to see it moving down the line and to let us take some pictures for the cars history file which was very much appreciated and will give us some fantastic memories. The icing on the cake was seeing the GT3 in the flesh
Lloyd at Grange in Exeter has once again looked after us fantastically - this is the fourth time he has relieved us from our money - and now can't wait for it to arrive which will hopefully be in the next 2/3 weeks.
Further report and pictures to come!

Well, well, that's an interesting development Ian, a 2 x V12 Vantage Roadster garage... Out of interest what swing you away from a "classic" Aston?
Hi Rich,Really came down to we want to do 8/9k miles per annum in the Aston. Want to keep the mileage down on the V12VR to 3/4k miles per annum and felt if we went down the classic route that wouldn't work for us. Then it came down to just having fun

nice purchase great choice. cant help thinking though Ian moving the old one on would be my bet.
"you dont want to do a lot of mileage in it now" which is perfect for a classic and then if you bought either of the ones you mentioned (top choices) then it counter balances the depreciation in the new one and reduces the further depreciation in the first one you are going to still have.
i have my money hat on at the moment of course but you then have a dramatic contrast between the cars and opens up a whole new social group with new and old.
my 2 cents is all and i am more than sure you thought long and hard before the plunge and it isnt like you cant change your mind either.
Hi Russell, your points are well made but at the end of the day we followed our hearts. We absolutely love our V12VR and there is no way that is going anywhere - I am sure it will be a future classic and will be treasured!"you dont want to do a lot of mileage in it now" which is perfect for a classic and then if you bought either of the ones you mentioned (top choices) then it counter balances the depreciation in the new one and reduces the further depreciation in the first one you are going to still have.

Congratulations on the purchase. Sounds immense!
There's more than enough of us that'd have your old PB Fascia (we're currently converting to it). The CB sounds interesting though and will look forward to the pics that'll inevitably follow
I had no problems keeping the PB fascia looking good on my V8V coupe but on the convertibles it seems to attract dust and grit and cleaning without marking it is really difficult. I saw your thread the other day and nearly responded. Just not sure when Q will get the CF parts to the dealer to go onto the car. Watch this space!

Ian,
Do you know or for that matter does anyone know how many V12S Roadsters have been supplied into the UK market so far……...
I for one haven't come across any so far,I also wonder how many they expect or forecast to sell here to the home market per annum ?.
Ed, I know the Aston dealer down here has had two. One was going to be a demonstrator but sold quickly and the other is available. My feeling is each dealer will have taken an initial two cars each but not sure after that. Can't see there being that many built and it will remain a rare beast, at least that is the impression I got at the factory.Do you know or for that matter does anyone know how many V12S Roadsters have been supplied into the UK market so far……...

The used one at WS went pretty quickly which was not a surprise given how low they priced it. Dealers are discounting new ones so that will harm used values in the short term but against that numbers will be low - so who knows?

Thanks for your take on that Ian.
If discounts are the order of the day I think I'll get half a dozen……..
Looking forward to your pictures and anyone else's really as we seem a bit sparse on the old picture front.
You'll have to give us a clue via pm on a reasonable hovel to stay in down your way when you have a moment for when your area meets are in full swing.
Will do. Will also send you a copy of the events we have planned. If discounts are the order of the day I think I'll get half a dozen……..

Nice one Ian. I can see another name change on the horizon
Lloyd at Grange seems to come highly recommended by Mikey too
Had considered it Phil - my first thought was to change it to 'The Blue One' but thought that might infringe your copyright and only confuse people Lloyd at Grange seems to come highly recommended by Mikey too
As to Lloyd - my wife wishes we had never met him!!!!!!!!!!

Glad to hear you're keeping the stick-shift special, Ian! Better be careful, or you'll end up like me - having to negotiate with the domestic handbrake for more places to park them! I had a tin top V12VS out at Silverstone with AM last summer. By the afternoon I was happily tearing marbles off its tyres - it was a marvellously responsive drive. I hope he gave you as good a discount on your brighter colour as I got on mine this time last year! Look forward to seeing you at an AMOC do. All best.
As usual very well looked after by Lloyd and very happy with the deal I got. There was never a question of getting rid of the V12VR as, hopefully, that will be with us for ever! The new had to look different though - and think we have achieved that. May looks a good month for events and we will be going up for the auction and to see the concours. Also doing the 80th anniversary event at Sandhurst which looks like it will attract a lot of Astons to it. Would be great to catch up and I will keep an eye out for your cars!!!!

Its good to hear gaff is still going. He was swissvax approved when i was.
I would strongly advise getting at least the whole bonnet covered though. If you don't, you will have a big black line going across the bonnet, which will be really evident with that colour.
Thanks Paddy - will give that some more thought.I would strongly advise getting at least the whole bonnet covered though. If you don't, you will have a big black line going across the bonnet, which will be really evident with that colour.

WOW Ian, didn't see that coming. Look forward to seeing it soon.
Cheers Tony. Not sure if it will be at the Club Evening but will definitely be available for the run down to the tank Museum at the end of April that we have organised. I think Maureen's more excited than me - it's her car!!!!!Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
