Welsh hotel recommendations ?

Hi, I'm planning a mini-tour of Wales over a long weekend. Probably starting with a trip through the tunnels on the A55, on to Snowdonia, then into mid Wales for the Evo triangle, followed by the Black Mountains. There'll also be a few sightseeing stops at beaches, castles and defunct slate mines along the way.

I'm looking for some recommendations on places to stay, nice country retreat where the Aston wouldn't look out of place, but they don't charge £15 for a G&T, i.e. I'm a cheapskate.
