Hi,

I've been trying to find out how I can update the SatNav in my 2009 DBS, and although there seems to be lots of different threads on the subject of the Volvo SatNav, I can't find anything specific for the DBS.

My questions are:

- What model SatNav is in the 2009 DBS? (I've read that there is a HDD version, but not sure which one is in the 2009 model - is it the same for all DBS' in fact?)

- If it is HDD based, where is this located? (or do you just put the disks in the auto-changer in the dash)

- What is the latest update available for the 2009 DBS, and can you get UAE updates? (I'm hoping so, as the roads are pretty much unrecognisable now, compared to the 2009 maps)

- Where can these updates be obtained? (I've heard that AM only do map updates, but I'm after the functionality and map updates, so not sure where to go)

I've contacted Volvo directly in the UAE, but I'm not holding out much hope of a reply, as that just seems to be the way in this region!

Any help appreciated!

Regards,

Scott.

Have you asked the AM dealer scratchchin
I'm based in the UAE (Dubai), so if you've ever had the displeasure of dealing with them over here, you'll know that they're absolutely useless! Also, I've read that AM only provide map updates, but I'm after the functionality updates that Volvo provide, apparently!

For an MY09 you will have the DVD based system. Go to www.volvocars.com/navi pretend for a minute you have a Volvo XC90 MY07- buy dvd, insert into aston martin, follow instructions on satnav screen. Job done.
Excellent, that sounds like the advice that I need! Did they change to an HDD-based system after the 2009 model release then?

Don't be silly, Im sure that he only wants to get hold of a 'backup' copy of the disc, not buy full price for a new one!
Ha... no, happy to buy the updates, but I just want to know that I'm getting the functionality as well as the map updates, and from what I've read so far, AM only do the maps... and they're stupidly expensive - quelle surprise!

yes AMDBS Nick, you are factually correct, it is in fact the HDD system which takes the DVD.. have just gone through this process for my 09 DB9
Ahh, OK - I'm pretty sure that the battery is under one of the rear seats, but not sure about the other one - it has a lever for disengaging the automatic transmission (moves from P to N) and then a cover that doesn't look that easy to remove - certainly no auto-changer or anything... is the HDD connected to the auto-changer in the dash, or is it a separate system in the DBS?

I can see the battery under the metal cover, so pretty sure it's not tucked in there with that.

I'm not sure what's under the black plastic cover. It certainly doesn't come off easily, so if somebody can advise if this looks right, I'll get some tools, but don't want to remove it unnecessarily, as there's a lever for disengaging the automatic transmission tucked in very close to it, so don't want to inadvertently cause issues with the gear box.

Bingo! Thanks very much - doesn't help that my owner's manual is in Arabic, as I'm sure it's in there somewhere... currently waiting to get hold of an English version, so thanks for all of your help.

Scott.

Scott I have the full workshop manual for the DBS. Just trying to remember which back up disc it is on (its rather large). As soon as I have found it I will email it to you yes
Thanks Nick, that would be very much appreciated! I've been *promised* a pdf version from AM over here, but like I said before, they're pretty useless unfortunately - been waiting 3+ months, and still no sign!

OK, the local Volvo dealer has said they should be able to provide the disks for "the older type NAV disc available that was used in XC60 but the last update is 2012"

Anyone have any idea if this model has the same satnav as the DBS, or does it have to be the XC90?

Ha, everybody here thinks I'm mad for even attempting to do this myself! It's that sort of culture unfortunately... thanks for the picture/details - I'll see if I can make the Volvo guys understand what it is that I need - seriously, not as easy as it sounds over here!

Volvo have confirmed that the latest update that they have for the satnav in the DBS is 31384668 - it looks like the next iteration of the update that you told me about, so fingers crossed that it's actually compatible! They were kind enough to say I could bring the car down to see before I purchase it, so that's something I suppose... they want £240 ($365) for the privilege - is this about right?

Yeah, that's the one that I was told about earlier in this thread, and the one that I asked Volvo for, but they don't have that part available, only the one I mentioned above, so if it's definitely the wrong part, looks like I'm out of luck! I'll have to see if I can get it shipped from somewhere outside the region.

And if you want a user manual in PDF they are available here for various years/regions/languages
https://www.astonmartintechinfo.com/ for a small fee or the useless dealer does have access even if they can't be arsed to use it.

Pity the service level in DXB has not gone up when the dealer was taken in house following an alleged 'disagreement' over payment from the prior franchisee, but on a par with other brands' franchisees in the region.
Ahh OK, you've lived/live in this region too, so you know the pain of getting even half decent customer service then! wink

I'd heard that there was a disagreement with the last franchisee, (was it Al Habtoor?) but from my experience with the official AM dealer now in the region, they're not a patch on the UK! As an example, I had all four CCM pads changed recently, at a whopping cost of 15000AED (roughly £2650) and they didn't bleed the system properly, and as a result, the pads needed to be changed again after 10,000km! Now I drive the car fairly hard, but nowhere near hard enough to rinse through a set of pads in that many km's! (mostly motorway driving, so very little braking compared to city driving). Of course, when I pulled them up on this, they refused to acknowledge that they may be at fault, and wouldn't replace them FOC - I then decided to have them replaced by the dealer that I bought the car off, (OEM parts fitted) and they have so far lasted me 15,000km with no sign of needing replacement! And they only charged 8000AED (£1400) which is as cheap as you can expect out here!

If you can do something well, with excellent customer service out here, I reckon there's a lot of money to be made!

Thanks for the info - out of interest, do you know what Volvo part number and description that correlates to? It would be similar to the following:

Volvo RTI (MMM+) - HDD Middle East - 2012
Media: DVD
Previous Volvo Part number: 31337071
Volvo Part number: 31382544

Hi Nick, any luck finding that workshop manual? There aren't many things that I'm keen to 'RTFM', but with this, I'll make an acception!
