So today after 6.5 years of owning my MY2010 Vantage I discovered that it can self lock at the most importune time.

Circumstances were that me and Mrs Steve went out in the car and as I drove away I noticed the little red security light at the left hand side of the instrument cluster remained lit after pulling away. This was not down to the tracker thing, I can say that categorically, it went off again after a few seconds.

Anyway, she wanted to go to a shopping centre in the next town along. She said she needed her purse from the boot, so After stopping I alighted from the car, engine off, leaving the Fob in the ignition lock as she was in the car, closed the drivers door and walked to the back of the car.

I opened the boot and found her purse, whereby she had also alighted from the car and closed her door also. I automatically closed the boot lid down, and went to the drivers door to get back in th car.

I was somewhat surprised to find the drivers door was locked - as was the passengers door and the boot also.

Obviously the car had self applied the locks, locking me out of th car but with the key fob in the ignition. Needless to say some mechanics in a garage right next to me found this somewhat amusing and chortled somewhat whistle

Anyway, got the help of a relative and was driven home to get the spare fob, retuned and successfully opened the door, saving the day.

So my point is that I was totally unaware that Astons self lock, even if the fob is in the ignition. Or has something gone wrong somewhere? Is self locking a normal feature of the car?

I have never seen that little red light come on before, is it just a security light or something else, perhaps warning me of imminent doom with the car?

Any thoughts appreciated please, I'm due to worry about something on the car, it's been a while! smile

Hi Mark thanks for that, I will certainly watch that one.

I could not replicate the self lock and really have no idea why it happened.

I'll bear your suggestion in mind if it comes back, thanks.
