Has anyone gone from a DB9 to Bentley Continental GT/GTC?

Any views, regrets?

Rob's right I went from DBS to Bentley GT Speed. Drop me a PM and I'll give you some candid thoughts. A rebadged VW Phaeton it may be but it was a very, very good car. For me personally, after a while, I could not wait to get back to an Aston Martin.
Hi Martin.... Sent you a PM

Very different images.

Perhaps that aspect is unimportant.
Good point and raised by Frankie in his PM. I even noticed a difference when I went from an XKR to my DB9 but I hadn't considered it would be an issue going on to a Bentley. Something to consider.

I have a DB9 and a Bentley Continental GT, so can give you a side by side comparison:

The Bentley is actually the better car. The interior is on a different level, it is faster and with four wheel drive you can really exploit all the power available. It is also effortless, has a huge boot and rear seats that you can actually get kids into (though is still not a proper four seater by any stretch).

However, I always go for the Aston Martin keys first. As everyone here knows, it just gives you something no other car seems to manage. A tingle, a bit like being a kid again!

They are great to own side by side using the Aston when the weather is good and the Bentley when it is not (or you need proper luggage space).

If you swapped you would not be disappointed with the Bentley at all, but - and it is a big but - I think you would miss the whole Aston Martin experience.

Have you considered the Maserati Granturismo? I've had one of them when they first came out and they are great. If you are considering the Bentley the Maserati is worth looking at too.

At the end of the day it all boils down to what you are looking for from your car. I bought the Bentley (and Maserati) because I wanted great performance, top level luxury, rear seats I could get my daughter in and a big practical boot. I bought the Aston Martin just because I had to have an Aston Martin!
Thanks Julian. There is only me and the wife and we have the Octavia VRs for shopping and her Abarth 595 Turismo for her daily drive. I just need someone in the Portsmouth area to bring theirs along to see if it fits in the garage. I get the DB9 in easy enough but the GTC is slightly larger in both width and length.

It would also mean selling 'Blofeld' which I have made in to a bespoke DB9...

Hi David

It is a bigger car, but I've not noticed any difference between the two when trying to park anywhere. I'd offer to help but I live near Nottingham and am in the Algarve for a couple of months now anyway!

It's horses for courses as the Bentley will never have that 'something' that the Aston does, but the luxury and understated power of the Bentley is quite incredible.

If you do go for it I strongly recommend you get one with the full Mulliner spec. Not only are they much nicer but they are more desirable and hold their value better than the standard spec.

As I say, it doesn't have that all inclusive charm and respect of the Aston, but the Bentley does have its own grace and elegance and is simply a superb car. Have a long test drive in one you like and you will see what I mean and be able to come to a decision as to what is right for you. So what have you done to 'Blofeld' then?!
Everything.

It's not as though the choice is between a GTC and a DB9. I already have a very special DB9 which I have 'Made my own'. I just cant stop thinking about the GTC.... I need someone to come to my house and show me that it doesn't fit in the garage....Problem solved....

David, if you want to borrow mine for a week then PM me. It's no problem but you will have to get up to Nottingham (and obviously bring it back!) and pay for full insurance whist you have it.

Mine is the original GT Mulliner, not the new GTC, but the offer is there.

It is a seriously good car (not for sale or thrashing around in though).

PM me about it.
Hi Julian,
I am off to Papua New Guinea tomorrow for 2 weeks (work) so if your offer is still on when I get back then yes I would like to take it up as an extended 'Test Drive' (Certainly no thrashing).
The wife is from Nottingham (Arnold) so we can combine the visit.

Many thanks

David

I'm looking to sell my Bentley Continental GT coupe 2004 plate, 114k miles, Black exterior, Cream interior, great condition. Driven regularly. Value circa £22,000 and I'm looking for a swap deal for a Maserati, AMG Mercedes, Porsche 911 or similar, with cash my way. Please contact me if you have any thoughts on a deal!
Hi, Obviously need to sell the DB9 first but I will be looking for a 2007/2008 GTC with around 30,000 on the clock. I have my eye on 3 at the moment so hopefully one of them will be available once the Aston goes.
