Yet another Satnav update question

Hi,
I know the DVD based satnav system can use the Volvo discs but, other than cost, is there any difference between the Volvo and Aston discs ?
Early posts from 2009/10 seem to suggest the Volvo discs offered different features, is that still the case or have I misunderstood ?

Hi,

I tried a Volvo disc from a local dealer and it seems to work OK.
However, there was no indication of anything being updated, ie there wasn't an "Update in progress" message or anything similar. Is this normal ?
I've gone from a 2011 disc to 2015.
Is there a way of viewing the map version/dates on the Satnav itself ?
Just want to be sure before I buy.
