Both doors will not unlock with key

I disconnected the battery because of my seats lost their memory and so I locked both doors w/key and went inside. Now neither door will unlock with the key.

Anyone know what I can do besides break one of my door windows to get back in?

I had a locksmith come over, but I would like to know why my key could lock the door, but not unlock the door.

Because I have tried everything else and so I tried disconnecting the battery, I just can't seem to get my car to take the reset for the seats.
