Thanks for the help guys, I dodged a bullet though. Problem was not as bad as I thought, car has been overfuelling, knackered starter motor and the worlds oldest and blackest spark plugs meant when it inevitably flooded it could not turn over fast enough to start. New starter and spark plugs and it starts almost as quickly as a normal car now! Now just need to get it mapped...

I would change the coil pack at the same time as the spark plugs.

The coil pack performance deteriorates quickly on the RX8 for some reason and it could be the cause for your over-fuelling and blackened spark plugs.

I used to change both the coil packs and plugs on my old RX8 at the same time on every 3rd-service as there are horror stories about over-fuelling with deteriorated coil packs causing wear in the rotor tips.
Thanks for the heads up, I will look at doing that next then, just had to shell out for four new dunlops! Just coils or leads as well?
