I have just sold the family car and on the lookout for a replacement. I have the opportunity to buy an Infiniti FX 5.0 for a very reasonable price. Does anyone run one on here?
Your ownership experiences would be helpful before I jump in with both feet!

Thanks, I appreciate it's a left field choice but having just sold a Subaru Tribeca I am ok with buying another slightly unusual car providing it proves to be reliable.

I want another petrol engined SUV type car that's no more than 3 years old for around 20k but that's a hard ask in today's market given the desire for most buyers to own a diesel!

Thanks, I have to admit I do like the quirky looks and they do go well for a big heavy car, the noise of the big V8 will be a bonus whilst I ferry the family around!

Thanks Yonex, 22mpg would be acceptable given the car will be used for holidays and weekends only.

The one thing that concerns me is that after 4 years in the UK market, Infiniti do not have a formal used car warranty scheme. Given the complexity of the cars electronics and the list price of nearly £60k new, it would have been nice to have the peace of mind to put the car into an insured warranty scheme along the lines of its competitors.

Hi Boshly, who would have thought it, 2 Tribeca owners on Pistonheads!

No my new one isn't the Saxton car although it does look very nice. I have bought one privately.

Thanks again for the advice.
There is so little information about the FX on the net, so I will try to post a few updates to the thread over time.

Boshly, totally agree about the Tribeca, ugly but ultimately a really fantastic family car and very much underrated. I was genuinely sad to see mine go and had Subaru still made it I would have bought another.

I can't seem to PM you from my iPhone so send me a messssge and I will respond via email.

I collected the car from Suffiolk on Monday, I am very, very pleased with it!

It is slate blue metallic with wheat (tan) leather. It came with a matching brand new Infinity aero roof box, tow bar, cargo net and boot liner, these extra bits cost a fortune new but came as part of the deal.

I have a list of things to sort out on it:

Complete valet and machine polish
4 new Tyres
Wheel refurb
Minor service
Rear entertainment system install

I had the car fully valeted today and the transformation is amazing!

I have booked it in for the wheels to be stripped and powder coated in a shadow chrome finish and to have 4 new Tyres fitted at the same time next week. The tyre size is 265/45/21, this is a Dunlop size only (for non winter Tyres) and cost circa £300 each. I wanted to try a 275 tyre which would give more choice and be cheaper but my insurers wouldn't allow it.

I have picked up a brand new set of Rosen AV7700 screens for the car for a bargain price, they will be fitted next Thursday so no more moaning from the back by my daughter hopefully!

I am stil deciding who to use for servicing, the car is under warranty until February 2014 so I would like to use an Infiniti dealer that knows the FX50 well to have a good poke about before the warranty expires. Reading and Leeds seem very helpful, there is a more local service centre in St Albans but they have only been around for a few months. Any recommendations are welcome!

The car is such a bargain compared to the competition as a used buy in my opinion. The interior is so well equipped and finished, it is comfortable and great fun to drive with very car like handling and amazing performance for such a big car.

I am hooked!

Thanks ModernAndy and Paul O.

I have had the Rosen screens installed this week and very pleased with them .

I have finally tracked down a set of Dunlops after hours of ringing around. I must say thanks to Camskill whom put me in touch with a competitor when they couldn't source a set of Tyres, top service!

I can't believe how many people have talked to me about the car when I have been out and about, people just don't seem to know about Infiniti, but are very positive about the car when they take a good look.

Next on the list is a service. Given my location I will probably drive to Reading to get it done. I do have a local service centre in St Albans but they have only been around for a couple of months. I think Reading see more cars than most so hopefully they will do a good job and have a thorough poke around before the warranty expires in February.

Wookietaff, which car are you buying? There are so few around. I think I have enquirered about most that were for sale recently. Have you seen the white FX50 that's just popped up on eBay?

Check the condition of the Tyres carefully before you buy. The Tyres are only made by Dunlop for the FX50, they are almost impossible to get hold of at the moment. Infiniti dealers have a few sets but want £400 plus per tyre !

I will keep updating this thread. It would be great to have your input too.

Hi Andy, the EBay car seems to have disappeared for the time being. It was a 60 plate white car with I think 25,000 on the clock. It was for sale at an independent dealer in Liverpool for £22,995.

I found some tyres at half sensible prices after Camskill put me in touch with a competitor. They still have a few more sets if anyone needs some.

Interestingly when I spoke to the service manager at Infiniti Leeds, he said that they had seen a few FX50's in at 30,000 miles on their original tyres, due to the car being so well balanced. My car is on 31,000 with the original tyres and they stil have 2mm left.

Well done wookietaff, it looks like a nice car, I hope you are pleased with it. If you get a chance please update the thread with your impressions of the car etc.

It's a shame that Infiniti don't offer an insured warranty scheme like other manufacturers, I was told that they tried to do something some time ago but the annual renewal was in excess of £2k so they didn't have many takers...

The warranty offered by Reading is underwritten by Autoprotect. In order to put a warranty on the car you will need to have the car inspected no more than 2 weeks before the warranty is to be issued. The inspection I think is £250 plus vat, however I did get them to agree that if I had the car serviced around the renewal time that they would carry out the warranty inspection as part of the service without further charge. I am not sure what to do about this as I have some less than positive experience trying to claim on a TVR branded Autoprotect warranty some years ago...

Very nice wookietaff, congrats! What do you think you will do regarding the warranty?

Andy, I got the feeling that when I spoke to Saxtons about the silver car that they were not prepared to move more than a few hundred pounds on the asking, they didn't come back to me either following my verbal offer.

Good luck with the search, I have just driven back from London this afternoon to Herts, I just love he car, the wait will be worth it!

wookietaff, the heated and cooled functions on both seats work thankfully, the only issue I had when I picked it up was a intermittently working spare key. I took it into Infiniti St Albans, they changed the battery FOC and thankfully all good again.

I need to have a chat to the service manager when I take the car down in December for its service and warranty inspection regarding their claims experience on the warranty. Most of the US forums seem to confirm that the major mechanicals are pretty bullet proof, but they do suffer the odd electronic niggle and in my experience these items are rarely covered by after market warranties.

The exhaust and remap sound interesting, do you know if Reading can supply the remap and exhaust to us, if so have they indicated a cost?

Andy, I think I mentioned earlier in the thread about the service history gap and suspected Infiniti would void the warranty because of this, as you say for the sake of a poxy £300 service they have probably knocked thousands off the cars value! Keep looking, it will be worth the wait. I will keep my eyes open for you.

Thehandshake, thanks I really like the colour combination thankfully!
