I picked up a Daihatsu Sirion (2008, 1.3L Auto) at the weekend. A tidy little motor apart from 2 little issues. The first is being a chipped windscreen which I plan to have repaired soon.

The other is that the car was only supplied to me with 1 key! I'd rather have a second key with the car so wanted to source another.

Daihatsu's are no longer sold in the UK but there are a few garages which still service them as approved. So I enquired at one of these garages for a key and was quoted £175 for a new key and transponder coding!! redface

It seems that blank keys can be found for £20-£30 so I wondered if anyone knows about coding a new key in on these cars (which are basically Toyota's I believe)?? Can I do it myself??
Do I need a ECU management computer?
Or do I have to fork out the extortionate cost for one?

Thanks

I believe there's a transponder in the head of the keys which is programmed to release the immobiliser. Which is the bit that needs programming, I just wondered if I bought one with a blank code whether I could code it somehow?
