Import MX5 Prices

Hi all,

I'm looking into buying an MX5, and since I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty and I have experience of SVA, I was wondering about doing some leg work myself by buying "direct off the ship" as it were. Has anyone taken this route? Roughly how much cheaper are pre-SVA/registration imports than post-SVA/registration cars? Other than SVA and registration is there anything else I need to know about. What are the potential pitfalls, etc.

Any help/advice gratefully received.
