Hi,

I've got a 1994 1.8 Eunos Roadster, 55k miles, which has developed a squeal that only occurs when starting from cold.

I've recently had the belts, pulleys and tensioners changed, but the squeal stayed exactly the same.

A bit more detail:
- the squeal is always the same pitch, and when it stops (after about 10 seconds), the revs rise by 200 or so.
- engine very hesitant when cold below 4k revs (to the point that to pull away from cold, you pretty much need 4.5k revs and feed the clutch in slowly to avoid stalling)
- I've got aircon, and when switched on the engine goes very sluggish and unbearably noisy above 4k revs

Now these problems could be related, or entirely separate from each other - but just wanted to share with you to see if you've got any ideas!

Cheers for now,
Darren

Hi all,

Thanks ever so much for the replies - in particular the post about WD40 on the belts. I'll give all the above a go this weekend (one at a time, of course), and see how it goes.

I've heard about the coil problem before - looking at the prices of a new set, it's a costly thing to have to change. Grrr...!

Cheers,
Darren
