Late at night, M1 pretty much empty. Time to get to grips with some speed? Well, yeah, kind off.

Chose to flick on cruise from Heathrow to home in Yorkshire at a steady 70mph. Not done this before but wanted to see if my N54 335i could do better than my regular 26.x mpg. Turns out it can, and by some considerable margin.

Anyone else done better?

Yeah, I tried to take a picture on my Blackberry when I got home at 1am but the flash made it impossible to see and without the flash enabled it was too dark to make out the figures. I took the pic the next morning; right before knocking the mpg back close to where it usually lives.

Wonder what the discrepancy between indicated and actual mpg might be. Next long trip I'll be finding out.

Hi Welshbeef. This 335 has the twin turbo N54 engine. Lovely car to drive quickly but also fine at a more sedate pace. And as its the SE its nice and plain aside from the twin pipes sticking out of the back. Give it the beans and it'll shift though and that does catch out the unwary.

Re oil temp, I got back from Heathrow at 1am and couldn't get a good pic to upload, so got one the next morning. Oil temp is a super useful addition to the instruments. Although waiting for the oil to get up to temperature can sometimes feel like an age!
