Just how good is the E60 M5, or settle for E60 535D????

In the market for a new car, looking at 2006-2008 M5s or 535Ds. They doesn’t seem to be much in the asking process, but I assume there is in running costs. I wind be a massive mile cruncher, about 10k a year, so mpg, not the most important thing,
So just how good in the M5? Is there a massive difference over the 535D, I fully expect a flaming, as the M5 is am ‘M’ car.
