Hi everyone,

I am in the market for a used E46 or E90 and I think i'll go for 320d although I am not sure, but I am split as to which model I should go for and whether to go for petrol or diesel.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks

I think you'll struggle to find a petrol 320d wink
lol true say, I originally intended to leave the question open between a diesel or petrol but then decide to stick the 320d in between. I'll put that down to proof reading!

Biggest question is what's the budget?

Sub £4k then E46

Over £6k then E90

£4-6k is no mans land
my budget is around £4k, I have seen few E90's but well over 100000 mileage....

Depends on your annual mileage

E46, forget 4 cylinder, so 320i, but the there's the perennial argument a 330i cost no more to run, but your looking at 25-30mpg against 45-50mpg for a 320d

If I was going petrol I'd be trying for an E90 325i, though you might need to stretch the budget a little (and still 30mpg give or take)
I do just under 10000 miles annually

looks a very good option, but would you go for this over diesel considering the difference in the mpg

At 10k per annum I'd take the petrol, diesel I'd run (and do) with BMW insured drivetrain warranty (costs £29 per month)

Diesel car is more expensive to buy, more expensive fix and less reliable and the petrol six is much nicer

10000miles at 28mpg @ £1.31ltr = £2141

10000miles at 45mpg @ £1.35ltr = £1363 plus £348 for driveline warranty (covers engine, gearbox, turbo)
Equals £1711

Difference £430 less for the diesel

But you won't buy an E90 diesel worth having for your budget

Thanks for that, its definitely something to keep in mind
