Recoding E38 (EWS 1) key, DIY or dealer?
Discussion
Hi folks, bit of a long shot here, I've got a '94 E38 740i, long story short; the key went through the wash, dried it, replaced battery, the light on the key lit up but it wouldn't sync with the car (although the light on the key flashes like it should) to disable the immobiliser and start the car. After asking anyone I could it was dealer time who said, "bend over, new key time." New key turns up, still the same issue, it won't sync.
The car has EWS I (AFAIK it was the only year it was used on the E38 Rolling Eyes ) so no transponder/chip to program according to the internet - the lack of transponder on the ignition switch or chip in the key seems to back this up.
Anyone know how I can solve this issue or if it needs done by a dealer?
Failing that, anyway I can disable the EWS like on an early E36 and get the passenger/rear doors to open so I can at least use it?
Cheers
