Hi all - Well not literally but I enquired via email , they called me and offered a px price so I declined, they then came back while I was at the till and I said yes and bought it over the phone before I paid for my shopping lol.

Can't wait , haven't seen it yet but it will be amazing . It's a 320 d m sport convertible . Has lots of options including those 5 star 19's . They put two new wheels , tyres, changed brakes , mot and service today . 3300 quid apparently which they obviously pay for . Am I mad without driving it ? We'll my father has a 325 d coupe so not too different . I may need to ask a few questions , has pro sat nav for starters which I may need help with as I am useless with those .
Cheers

Personally wouldn't buy without driving, however you're as safe as you'll ever be with a main dealer.
Yes exactly , I wouldn't do it otherwise

I wouldn't buy it without driving it simply because it's a really terribly suited engine to that car. The last thing you want in a drop top is a noisy 2 litre diesel. You obviously don't care about running costs - a set of tyres on those bling wheels is a grand - so why ruin a convertible with an engine like that?
Tyres are all new so not worried about those . Running costs ? You mean 50 mpg , cheap car tax ? I have done the loud sports exhaust thingy on my old 911 with a petrol engine , past that stage now . Diesel is fine . I haven't bought it to go boy racing in . Besides if I want to go faster I will go down the map route but it will be plenty good enough for me :-)

Have you driven any model 320d at all?

If not, seems a bit odd to buy a car without driving it - especially as there are a number of similar cars (Audi, Merc etc) that you might prefer.

Still, you bought it while at Tesco - so that's got to help.
Yes driven coupe with same engine . It's 181 bhp and 380 torque , that's plenty for me , besides my other half will be driving it most if the time . I wanted a tin top convertible . That's why I chose this. Plus it's my fourth 3 series and liked them all .

Thanks for your comments guys . Bottom line is I bought a diesel because I wanted a diesel . If I wanted a petrol I would have bought a petrol :-)

Will post pics Saturday if I can work out how to again

Cheers

Answering a few questions:

I wont hear the engine when the roof is down as the radio/Ipad will be on ( not too loud)

Tyres are expensive yes but I am used to 911 rears lasting 5000 miles so not bothered about that and also I never skimp on tyres its your life.

It is an auto yes, its the 184 bhp one . I think it was revised so a few more bhp and torque.

Below are extra options, not sure what some are but they sound good lol

Before buying the 335i convertible I wanted my wife to drive an E93 to see if she felt comfortable doing so, the local dealer only had a 320D which drove well and I didn't find the engine note too intrusive or off-putting. Granted the 335i has a more satisfying howl but the 320D wasn't all bad.

Dave
Thanks. Some reassurance

Just totted the options up to 5600 quid . So please with that.

I know everyone keep going on about the engine but I have a 2011 passat now in 2 litre diesel at 140 bhp , it's fine forwhat I want ( until Saturday that is lol )

Had it four 4 months and only lost 400 quid on px.

I have had a convertible e30 2-5 engine running 170 bhp . And two e36 2-8 running 190 bhp ( one of them a convertible )

They were fine, ok this is a diesel and heavier but it has more torque . I maybe do motorway driving twice a month to go see football in London ( spurs for my sins)
Other than that I will rarely reach 40 mph round Bournemouth . It's fine for me :-)

Please just sit with engine running top down before you pull the trigger. If the noise is not a problem. I very much hope you enjoy the car. smile

Rubbish - my current does 45 urban and my prevoius golf gti struggled to get 25 , plus cheaper tax and cheaper insurance. Diesel and super unleaded are not that far apart either.

I did look at a 2 litre petrol a few months back actually, the 2 litre diesel is more economical, faster , cheaper tax also. both cars were 20,000. petrol was a manual too in white . Mine is silver, oh and mine has loads of options in it too.

both similiar cars but different engines .

Anyway glad with what I purchased :-)

Typically its raining all day saturday when I pick it up !!

Yes and yes, it is very good, not sure but if you've got the updated pro nav (short cut buttons around the idrive controller) they should be able to update to the latest version of the software
Sounds good, so with voice controller I can control air con, radio , sat nav etc ?

I have parking sensors too so hopefully that will appear in that sat nav screen. Apologies for being a bit behind the times, my last beemer was a MY96 and the best that had was electric windows biggrin

just checked the top gear website for their review- I rest my case lol

'BMW has evidently worked hard on wind flutter, too – keeping it away, that is. Of the myriad engines, only the 320i and 325i petrols are lacking pace, and even though the thought of a four-cylinder diesel convertible is depressing, get over yourself: the 320d has more than enough quiet strength for the job'
