X5 e70 3.0sd early cars advice

May have sold my car and so in the market for x5 3.0sd
Having come from a 535d, thought long and hard and I don't think I would like a 3.0d especially as the x5 is heavier

These still command a premium with a half decent spec

The budget is limited, so before someone mentions about facelift, 8 speed, 40d etc. I just won't be able to stretch to that

How much would you pay for say a late 07 early 08, 100k example?

What do you meant the gearbox is dim
I've got the same gearbox in the e60 535d and its ace?
Unless obviously the weight of car makes it harder work

I don't understand why the feeling on ponderous gearbox

I've had a dsg before and yes it was slick but the LCI 535d is pretty good on the gearbox, no real complaints

Average in 535d really depending on types of runs
Let's say I get a mix mid 30.

It's been a great car, very reliable and extremely comfortable (Comfort Seats are superb) and just brilliant as a family wagon capable of everything from day trips loaded with bikes/dogs to ski holidays in Europe.

I might have upgraded to a newer car but I specced it as a "keeper" when I bought it and went overboard on the options so unlikely to find a car as well specced. The auto box is good but not good enough in my case to justify the extra money.

Fuel economy is as others have said 22-27mpg....to see 30 mpg in mine I'd have to drive between 50 and 70 mph....go over 70 and the consumption comes down fairly quickly (apparently!).

Ride can be fidgety on the 20" with RFT's but the latest generation of RFT's is much better than when I first had the car. When I first got the car I put normal tyres on at the first opportunity and had been running those until about a month ago....SWMBO punctured one of the rears on at 3pm on a Friday afternoon with us going on holiday the next morning. Only tyres you can buy at short notice are RFT's and they are fking expensive to buy when you can't negotiate.....two new 20" rear's Mr Kwikfit ? That'll be £900 sir.

In terms of spec I really rate the following

Comfort Seats - Superb and used every single minute you're in the car
Reversing Camera - Live in London....really helps place the car for parallel parking too
Seven Seats - young kids...don't use them often but when I do they've been invaluable
Panoramic Roof - fairly obvious
Comfort Access - Young kids so always got my hands full
Bluetooth - Fairly obvious

Those are all "must have's" for me....Comfort Seats are very hard to find AUC and finding them in combo with the rest almost impossible.

Have things like heated steering wheel, side blinds, sun protection glass, folding mirrors (must in London), heated seats etc are all great to have.

I went from an LCI 535d to a new e70 3.0d SE in Nov 07 with dynamic pack, 7 seats, reverse cam, xenons, etc.

Was getting high 30's in the 535d - maybe 38mpg. Got 28mpg in the x5.

I fitted a tuning box to mine and it gave it a very significant power boost for not a whole pile. You could remap a 3.0d rather than go for an SD.

I'd no issues with the gearbox - loved it in fact. Not sure where these slow witted comments are coming from.

Loved mine to bits but the economy put me off mine very quickly. I changed job roles a month after i got mine and ended up putting £500 a month of fuel through it. PLUS tyres were £250 a corner so i was budgeting £1000 a year for tyres too.

I would be wary of a high miles car. These are cars with BIG running costs. High miles is only likely to increase that.

These seem to loose a big chunk in the first 3-4 years and then bugger all over the next 3-4 years.

2010 3.0d for £20k, so lost £30,000 and then a 56 plate will still cost you £15k.

Seems to me the sensible option is buy a 10 plate and run it for 3 years.

Good shout, not considered a facelift 3.0d, probably because not seen many lol

£57k...I think the options were £14 or £15k...base price was circa £42k in 2007. Car is probably worth £15k or so now! Although I reckon with the low mileage and the spec I'd get an extra couple of grand for it!

4.0D with that spec now would be £63k I think.

What mileage is yours?

I've seen one on autotrader, private, very similar to the one I linked at the beginning of thread, but its £2k+ more than what the linked one sold for. Don't want to phone up and low ball straight in to what I think its worth, but the one sold is I think a good indicator for private prices, so we shall see

Just crunching some numbers on a 535i sport touring, but would want to keep the ML.

Best of both worlds get the x5 the the 535i when depreciation settles a bit more
