This has popped up for sale nearby and thinking of buying it

http://www.specialistvehicles.co.uk/bmw-330-ci-spo...

I am just wondering what this is like for spec as I have no clue about E46 spec levels, also if it is too expensive for a 93k mile 2003 car? I really want a full or near full spec car. Not bothered about sat-nav as long as it has a CD player like this does.

I have an a3 sportback which WBAC will give me £7700 for, I can sell it privately for around £10k but really cant be bothered with tyre kickers and people who want to test drive an S-Tronic car locally then go and buy a diesel version.

Thoughts please?

I went for a spirited drive just now down into the badlands (lol) of Cornwall and I THINK I actually want a proper manual again.

I need to find and test drive a manual car.... not very many for sale down here.

Can I ask what options CANNOT be retro-fitted or cannot be retrofitted for under £300 each ?

Ok I have found 2 candidates at the same place.

I prefer the more expensive one but I didn't really want to spend that much at the moment...but I can.... I was brought up that the lower the mileage the better and to avoid high mileage cars...this may be inaccurate.

The cheaper one is a manual so begs the other question of "manual vs auto" which I can't decide at all.

Both are verts which appeals to me.

What do you think?

Both are MILES away from me but a good friend lives there so not too bad.

This is the one I really like..

So I went to see the OP car today, had a gander, drove it a fair bit, it was lovely. Bit concerned with the high mileage... it had a level 2 inspection at 70k, then oil change at 90k, and has done 91k now. Do these need timing chain/belts replaced? I feel it expensive for the age and mileage but there is nothing else for sale within 150 miles.

They will reverse-px and give me £8k for mine. £500 deposit.

I really don't know wether to do this or not? Parents think anything over an 08 with 40k is ridiculous.

I am going to leave it, and travel.

This one looks more appealing... and a BMW Business CD player is £100 on ebay.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

This one is around 80 miles away.

I am going to exclude the Cardiff one (and thanks for offer of those details) as it too is pretty standard spec with just a tape player.

I don't like Alpine headunits, I actually have a Pioneer P99RS stashed away for a future install that I bought for a grand when they came out, the only problem with those is they have 0 internal amps and I sold/scrapped all of my amplifiers thinking I would never use them. I am sure I can find a decent 5 channel one somewhere.
What I don't like about aftermarket headunits in these cars is the din is wider than the headunit so it always looks "wrong" but I was reading you can make a switch for the exhaust valve so maybe I could put that next to the HU?

I really like the grey one, just got to find time to go and see it etc.

I am also looking at Alpina B3's but they are all really high mileage!!!

I might as well ask this in the same thread.

Is £1500 enough to do preventative maintenance to whatever car I purchase?

I am thinking:

Water system - thermostat - radiator - water pump

Twin vanos seals

EGR clean

Something else that escapes me - it rattles too

Anything else I should think of?

I notice C3BMW also sell standard suspension springs as well as uprated dampers and springs however most of these are "excluding M3 and M-TEK" is a 330ci "Mtek" ???

So looking at this:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

Bit worried though. I google the address of the trader - no car dealerships found anywhere near Google Maps result. In fact according to the result it is a CO OP store.

Google search indicates FOUR car dealer related places on the same address:

Signature Motor Company - Doesn't seem to exist according to Companies House.

S&B London Limited - Brand New Company

Twinstar Motors Limited - Brand New Company

Village Auto Centre - Doesn't seem to exist either.

Should I avoid this car then?

Both have different directors.

EDIT:

Here is Twinstar. See the Blue Mini? That is advertised as a "Village Auto Centre" car...

So we have 4 car dealerships all located at the same address, with 2 known but different company directors... with only one of them actually represented by any kind of signage....all looks a bit fishy to me?

Slightly off topic:

1. Where are all the E39 530i's? There seem to be a few for like £12k-9k then a huge gap and a load of non-M Sport's for 3k-1k.

2. Is there anything wrong with this http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/b... (see dash light pic) ?

So having spent the weekend heavily researching 330ci's I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that...any one I buy either 50k miles or 100k miles... I need one with full or near full BMWFSH, and I still need to overhaul the cooling system and Vanos and DISA and a few other things.

Which leads me back to the plymouth one here http://www.specialistvehicles.co.uk/bmw-330-ci-spo...

Now I had a listen to the engine and honestly I couldn't hear any rattling, and I looked for rust and couldn't find any.

I am wondering if it is worth trying to buy this car...but not for the £6k they want for it, rather offering them something beginning with 4?

How would you value it? I would be happy if I could get it for like £4750 or something given it is going to cost me a few bob to overhaul the parts that fail.

There is a car up country with 70k miles for sale for £4750 but it has a few chips and cracked fog light, then every other car with 70k miles and around the same, Post Facelift price seems to be around £5500-£6250 with the same spec.

Bearing in mind this is a 2003 with 91k what do you think it is worth, really?

It is a lot less hassle for me to buy this rather than have to go up country (one the train/bus) to find the example is terrible and then have to come home (on the train/bus) etc.

P.S Fox I emailed you but no reply so I will ask here, are there any recommended BMW Indys in or around Plymouth? Thanks

Which one would you recommend? Is Phil Davies a BMW indy? I used to take my VW's there...

I wasn't actually going on US advice but actually one of your posts about the pipes breaking and big engine damage instantly on the 530i engine (which is the same engine right?)
I would rather be careful and pre-empt it than risk it.

The first thing I would do if i manage to get that particular car for good money is replace all the tyres...

OK thanks.

I am thinking of buying this one if it all checks out on the test drive. Going to WBAC my A3 this week. Will be carless for a week or two first time in 10 years!

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

This has full spec nearly, except business radio but does have HK, low mileage, timing chain replaced which is a positive!

If it doesn't have Xenons, is it just halogen inside a projector? Still got self levelling + washers? (Ie, suitable for HID's?)

Honestly it seems to be the best car for sale at the moment that is not a convertible.

Tyres I will just use to knock them down and then go and buy some PS2s.

Looks good to me. You have to go and see it and judge it on condition. Spec sounds fine, except for no heated seats.

I may be wrong, but I thought all the Coupes had Xenons, but that could just be the later E92 model.

Here's the full info on the car:

Thank you for that info smile

How did you get that??

Heated seats are easy to retrofit smile Good excuse to buy full red leather interior!

Also according to the spec it does have bluetooth, though so does my 8P2 A3 and I never use it!
