I am going to be doing some autobahn miles soon (one of Hitler's more effective visions) and was wondering whether it is possible/adviseable to de-restrict the 155mph limited on my 2004 645ci which has covered 55000 miles.

I presume that it might also invalidate my BMW insured warranty?

Yes I see thanks.

FYI, I have hit 275kph in a TTRS and 170+ mph on a Fireblade, so am more than comfortable 'making progress' on a clear stretch of Autobahn. The Germans love it too, seeing a vehicle with UK plates maxing it on their roads! Not all of them, mind...

How much slower than a TTRS can it be?

When I travelled last year from Cologne to Hanover it was 6-9am and fairly busy, but on the return leg at around midday, the traffic was more sparse.

FFS it's a 4.4L V8, not a VW Polo!

I think that I'll probably keep things simple and keep it boggo.

On another note, I have been assured nudge nudge that my car can hit 140mph very easily on the B390 Shrewton Road through the Salisbury Plains :P

So.... I didn't derestrict it, but took it to Germany and the speedo exceeded the highest indicated 160mph. I can assure you that once over 150mph, things start happening very quickly indeed!

The most outstanding feature was how comfortable and composed it was - a really excellent GT car which saw me good over 4,000 miles through Europe.
