Hi ya

My wife currently own a (2014 BMW 120d M Sport), we get around 50 – 55 MPG, car is used as the family workhorse i.e. shopping, weekends away, picking my son up as well as trips to and from the airport etc

What are the real world running costs of the 330i saloon ? I know about TAX as I've already had a look I'm talking about MPG etc

I'm comparing the 320d, the 330i looks like cracking value to buy new but I'm worried it's going to cost a fortune to run over the PCP deal

I wouldn't have thought there would be too many owners of the new 330i yet but owners of the latest 328i should be able to give some decent real world experience.

I am still coming to terms with the 330i having a 2 litre 4 pot Turbo under its bonnet instead of a 3 litre straight six! I always thought the 328i seemed a good package because it offers cracking performance and economy so I have no doubt the new 330i will be the same.
Yup,

Noticed that on the specification hope it still sounds nice ?

Thinking about the 320d again, 330d would be lovely however we are capping the spend at 30k both the 320d and 330i are obtainable for that figure with discount

The fuel economy is putting us off still

Spec:

M Sport
White
Red leather (standard)
Brushed alloy with piano black
19" alloys
Folding rear seats
Harman speakers

For both cars around 29.5k

Isn't the LCI 330i got the new generation 'B' engine? So completely different engine to the 328i?

I'd imagine the MPG would be slightly better on a brand new engine.

It's a simple choice really, the diesel will cost less in fuel, the petrol will be faster, smoother and sound nicer. I'd take the petrol and the ~extra 60hp. I bet the difference will be less than £500 a year on an average mileage.
Those were my thoughts but its convincing the Mrs

If it's £300 - £500 the petrol sounds promising, I agree I'd rather have performance etc as that was the main reason we were looking at the 330i in the first place

I'll wait a few more months and get more feedback

330i for the price of a 320d, and you're wondering which one to get? Seems about no brainer to me. 330i every time.

Unless you're doing a million miles depreciation will be far more expensive than the difference in Fuel costs.
We never tend to buy our everyday car outright we always PCP it

Seems the cheapest way of owning a new car over 3 years

Crumbs

Just enquired about the 320d M Sport (the same specification as the 330i) 2k cheaper ! seems that may be the final nail in the coffin for the 330i

Asked about the Diesel (Tax) not until 2020 and there's a lot of doubt if they will even get it in

My 330d gives me more smiles that any other car I’ve owned, it’s a very quick car that handles beyond what a family car really should. This is speaking from experience of course.

But, back on topic. Op, the 330d is delightful please test drive one just so you can compare, oh and the myth that they are dirty isn't true, just uneducated drivel spouted sometimes.

When I test drove the 328i it felt a little flat and the engine sounded harsh, not that quick either and I don’t think that mpg is great. If you can live with the reduced mpg a 340i would elevate your driving to a whole new level, it would cost in mpg but surly the reward would make up for that?

The 340i I believe is one of the worlds best petrol engines on sale today available in a family car, ideal for your mileage too.

A bargain -

330d a bigger bargain -

Thanks for those links very good value, it's going to be the wife's car however I will be driving it as well so appreciated. She's quite a keen driver as she also drives my Lotus (previously driven my Porsche, Fezza etc) so the 330i/d would be lovely

Any idea when the 325d will be released ? That sounds the best compromise to me ?
