BMW 318i sport plus coupe EML

Hi, just purchased a 2012 318 sport plus coupe, and the engine management light is coming on. Reset, and it's back on again, and the car feels slightly juddery, nothing major, just ever so slightly so.
Dealer says it's due to using supermarket fuel. Is there any substance to this, and has anyone had any similar experiences.
